Eye Stuff

So, what *I* forgot this morning was that usually one gets one’s eyes dilated for an eye exam.  And then, having had this done, it is not a good thing to drive oneself home! Actually, it hadn’t even entered my head that I would be getting my pupils dilated although I have had eye exams and had this done eleventy-million times. {It occurred to me this morning that since I have been wearing glasses since I was four, I have worn them for 69 years! } Anyway, I came out into the sun, stood there a while and let my glasses darken and drove home quite successfully!

I should be getting two new pairs of glasses some time before the next two week are over. I am getting a trifocal pair –with lines– for everything, but especially for driving and a bifocal pair –again with lines–  for looking at the computer and reading. This is essentially what I have now. The trifocals will be transitional and have the glare-restricting coating {which I have now and love} and the other pair have the glare-free coating only since I wear them in the house and don’t need for them to darken.. I really like my new eyedoctor. She is young and bubbly and seems to know what she is doing. I gave her permission to get my paperwork from the other doctor. I am trying LensCrafters this time. They can’t mess me over any more than the office people at my eye doctors did last time. I thought I was going to have to get on a plane for England sans new glasses. Anyway, I asked the manager at  LensCrafters if they could guarantee that I would have these glasses within the next two weeks and the manager said basically that she would put a rush on them and I should have them in eight to ten days. {I am having surgery two weeks from today and there is no way I will be able to drive and get them fitted for a couple of weeks after the surgery!} There is going to be quite a big change in my vision when I get these new glasses. Right now, I see almost as well without them as I do with them!  And I always knew my left eye had very poor vision but it is a bit of a shock to find I can’t even read the top line on the chart without my glasses when my right eye is covered!

I went to the drugstore to get Fred’s prescriptions before I went home. My two prescriptions written for a two-month supply, kick in on the 7th of July. I do, I am pretty sure, have enough to carry me to the seventh.  I am SO glad I started this getting-drugs-for-two-months-at-a-time procedure a couple of months before I am leaving for Italy! I still have to go to the medical supply store and get crutches, etc, but I will probably do that tomorrow.

Two weeks already? Wow! With all the security and stuff on planes these days, I’m wondering if they will even let you take drugs with you! Do you have to have some kind of special permission thingy to do that?

You sound very positive and chipper. I think you will be very relieved to have all of this behind you.

Wow!! Just two weeks! Yaaaaaaaaaaay!! Soon you’ll be done and on the road to recovery! :o) !! It’s great that you’re going to be able to see so much better, too. I can’t see any better with my prescription glasses than without them for distance, but they do help me read at least! hugs, Weesprite

I can’t read the top line on the chart with either eye. I have bad eyes!

Patricia, I have a secret diary. If you want, I will add you to it. it’s so I can write my feelings without Mike seeing them.

Just food for thought, my mom got fore arm crutches when she had her hip done. She said regular crutches hurt up under her arms and these didn’t. You drove after they dilated you? I can’t even see my hand in front of my face at that point! Wow! Love ya! ~M

you sure are getting things ready for surgery and your trip! hope everything works out good for you. take care,

Carrying your drugs should be no problem as long as they are in the prescription bottle. I’m glad that you got your eyes checked and that the glasses will be there before your surgery. I love the transition lenses too. The anti glare didn’t really seem to make much difference to me so I skipped it this last time. Hugs, M
