Evening Stuff

You remember the yogurt I made from dried milk and water? Well, it was not very successful. It made yogurt but the whey separated out on the top of it in the refrigerator. I put one pot of this yogurt into a coffee filter to drain and made some yogurt cheese {yochee} that wasn’t bad. I added a little onion powder to it and had it on a slice of toast. More experimentation is needed here, I can see, so I put another pot to drain about an hour ago. We are having a friend of Fred’s come to visit and eat with us  tomorrow and he has offered to bring us a grocery order on his way, so I promptly said. "Milk please!"
I am not sure if I will walk tomorrow. I went out for about 15 minutes today and it was scarily slippery. Usually I can walk on the roads but the snow plow had quite apparently not been through and the slush on the road was slippery. And, of course, the sidewalks were slippery with ice under the snow too. I sent email to Leslie suggesting we call walking off tomorrow but I think I sent it after she left for work and I don’t think she has access to her email at work. Anyway, she always calls me as she leaves work, so by then I will have checked the status of the roads and sidewalks. Anyway, I feel a little better in myself for having got out even for 15 minutes.
I am delighted to say the birds have well and truly found the new bird feeder and are enjoying it. This morning a male cardinal was out there and then a female flew up and waited for him to move! The little birds can sit two or three at a time and it doesn’t trip the squirrel repeller cover but I wonder if the two cardinals tried it and it closed the feeding portholes… Anyway, she sat there until he finished and I was glad to see them. Some years we see a lot of certain birds. This year I have seen more chickadees than I can ever remember seeing before. Last year we seldom saw a housefinch. This year they are not plentiful but they are around.

Be careful getting out on those slippery sidewalks!! I love to watch birds at the feeders! hugs, M

Yes, please do be careful! 🙂 I wish we had a bird feeder. Maybe I could hang one out on our fire escape. 🙂

Sometimes when the weather is bad and I need to move, I dance around the house. Don’t tell anyone.

I love wild birds!!! I should start feeding ours again…

I don’t mind the snow because you can get a little traction, but ice scares me, too! You can easily break a bone or two falling. My father loved bird watching and he had so many bird feeders out. He loved sitting on his back porch for hours watching them. Have you ever seen the magazing “Birds and Blooms?” My father subscribed to it and it truly is a beautiful publication. It probablywould give you some great “subjects” to paint, too!

Be careful on the sidewalks. They’re slippery over here too and I have to walk really slowly when I go out to get the mail..

Many people here walk in the mall. Could you do that?

That bird feeder sounds fun. We don’t have any colorful birds around here, just the brown sparrows. Once in a while I’ll get a blue jay and one year I had some juncos, but that’s about it.

yes, yes, do please be careful on the slippery sidewalks and roads! I’m so glad your new birdfeeder has been found and is getting a lot of use! We always have lots of cardinals; this year we have lots of blue jays and some years we have only a few. This year, for the first time, we have lots of titmice! and a pair of woodpeckers instead of just one! They do look comical, eating from the feeder. Here’s wishing you a lovely day! hugs, Weesprite

Please be careful on the slush and ice. I used to look forward to winter, but now that I have to navigate with a cane, not so much.

since we got no snow at all, the roads are mostly clear. perfect for walking. still lots of ice on the trees and power lines. is it hard to make yogurt? i think a yogurt maker would be a good thing. also a breadmaker. snow coming in to southern nh tomorrow. hope it’s not bad. take care,

Like others have said: Be careful!

RYN: Great idea for the book. I’m creating a suggestion list for author research – maybe I’ll add that one.
