Discoveries
Today I discovered two things:
1. Yes, the physical therapists know what they are talking about. Last night I did my hip and leg exercises in bed and this morning, since I was the first one in an empty classroom, I did the standing-up ones there. And, yes, I have a minimum of pain.
2. Our instructor said that if we listen, participate in class and do our assignments, Italian will get easier. Today she gave us a short {a very short } story she had written. She told us to read through it and underline the words or phrases we didn’t know. I had three. THREE! I was so impressed at myself. And one of the three was a word she hadn’t used or given us so I wasn’t really supposed to know what it meant! I am getting very much better at understanding what I hear and read. Not so great at speaking, but, hey, understanding comes first in a baby before she begins to speak, too, and that is the kind of learning we are getting. I think it is very interesting that we all say good morning in Italian to her and to each other before class starts, and "Bravo" to each other when we work with a partner. We were not told to do this; it just happened. I am just like a baby who uses one or two words she is comfortable with when she begins talking!
I just dust-mopped and wet-cleaned our bedroom floor. It tends not to get done as often as the living room. Then I went around and dusted everything. I am feeling virtuous and the room looks and smells clean.
In a few minutes I am going to start on the homework. We have a lot. So, I will start with the translation and maybe do some of the exercises practicing agreement of adjectives with their nouns. I haven’t really looked too carefully at the assignment. We are not to use single word answers but to copy the whole sentence and put in the missing words. My problem on the last one was not so much that I got the answers wrong because I chose the wrong word, but mostly because I misspelled a couple of words. I am a hunt-and peck typist and copying a foreign language from my rather careless handwriting causes this type of error. Oh, well, a warning to be more careful. It isn’t that she subtracts points for this kind of error but that she corrects it so we notice it.
Until later….
Good luck with the homework! 😀 *hugs*

I love how philosophical (sp?) you are about errors in your homework. I’m WAY too dramatic (caused by stress, anxiety, and perfectionism, a bad combination). You are a good example for me.

🙂 hey it sounds great. I’m quite envious as I would love to learn Italian properly.

Hooray for the exercises working. You inspire me, both with doing your exercises, AND with having a clean room (and clean-smelling!) As a matter of fact, such inspiration dictates that I get up right now, and do some exercises, and maybe mop, too. 🙂 Thanks!

*huggs* : ) you will be “Ciao Bella!” like the natives in no time, and were you able to find that movie, Bread & Tulips”? It is all in Italian w/subtitles and is marvelous!

It sounds like your Italian class is fun! Maybe one of these days I will go back and take a class of some kind or other. I guess it’s a good thing you have the weekend to get all that homework done, eh? Have a good one! M

I enjoy hearing about your Italian class, as much as I enjoyed hearing about your art classes. Now I’m smiling, thinking that if I were going to learn Italian like a baby first learning to speak, I’d want to know the words for “Milk” and “Cookie” very soon! :o) !! hugs, Weesprite

A funny bad translation: A friend of ours is named Giuseppe Corlione. At a charity function here in the US, they printed his name in the program and introduced him as Giuseppe “Coglione”. We (the Italian speaking crowd) were all in stitches, as coglione is the Italian for testicle.

I’m glad your Italian classes are going well. Personally, I’ve never really been able to learn a foreign language. It always gives me too much trouble.
