Day Ten

More and more I LOVE the way it is so easy to shop on line. While I was reading Open Diary this morning, for some unconnected reason, I was reminded that I needed a pedometer so I just popped over to Amazon and ordered one! What I really need is a program that will tell me where the old one is! Of course, this old one will turn up now I have ordered a new one. What did we do before the Internet? Well, I know the answer to that. Get in a car, drive to town and walk around a store!

I really don’t have many plans for today but tomorrow I have an appointment with the ophthalmologist at 9:30 am and the book club meeting is tomorrow evening at 7 pm. I am looking forward to the book club but not to the morning appointment. I hate  hate HATE having to go to the hospital building because the parking is so difficult. First, they charge a lot for it and secondly at certain times of the day, one drives around the parking garage praying for a place to open up! Anyway, apart from that, the examination itself isn’t difficult or painful and I really like Dr. W. And, of course, I will take the Kindle.

Talking about the Kindle, I am really getting into hunting down free books. There are a couple of good sites out there for older science fiction books and yesterday I found three of the Stainless Steel Rat books by Harry Harrison bundled together as a free book. I also learned something yesterday. I was getting a bit perturbed that although I could see these books in the document folder when I connected the Kindle to the computer, they were not appearing on my Kindle home page. Then I remembered reading somewhere that one has to shut off the Kindle completely {not just put it to sleep as I do} and restart it so the Kindle could reindex the books, so, I did that, and, yes, there they are!

Ok, on with the day.

free books-now that makes sense! I, too, have been singing the praises of the Internet lately. After my mother died, I found out that the person who is the executor/trustee of the estate is a woman who lives in ENGLAND. She’s been doing things, not telling me, then when I find out, the e-mails shoot back and forth. I’ll be back in NYC soon and the lawyer is here in California. what did we do?

I’ll bet I’ll be coming to you for advice on free books, etc. for my Kindle. Do you know if you can borrow downloadable books from the public library for the Kindle?

Internet shopping is the only reason I’ll buy Christmas gifts. You won’t get me near a store now.

Hugs,M

Stainless Steel Rat? That sounds interesting. Free is excellent!

I need to get a pedometer as well. I’m interested to know how much I walk just during a regular work day.

I use this website for free books. Some of them have kind of an iffy quality, but for being free I can’t complain too much! haha. http://www.truly-free.org/

Free books….now that’s a good deal! :o) !! I really like that now Amazon lets you pay by check right over the Internet, cuz we no longer use any credit cards. Now I can go back to shopping at Amazon again! :o) !! I hope it’s not too hard to find parking for your appointment tomorrow. hugs, Weesprite
