Cold Day

It is horribly cold outside  today {5 degrees} but at least it is not snowing {yet} It has snowed on and off for three days. Yesterday I got out and started cleaning snow off Fred’s car but had to stop because although the rest of my body was dressed for it, on my hands were light wool gloves, and my fingers got colder and colder until it felt that they were going to snap off so I came in with only the basic snow removing done. This means that the car is still wearing a snow hat and I haven’t yet scraped the ice off the windows. And my car has a thick snow blanket untouched by human hands…
Any other Project Runway watchers out there? I was surprised to see Chris get sent home last night. But since he accepted the team leader position, he should have realized that he would be blamed if the group didn’t do well. For those of you who are wondering what I am talking about, the participants worked in groups of three and the challenge was to bring back trends of the past and make the clothes modern and cohesive as a group I know one of the trends the group got was shoulder pads but I can’t remember what their other two were. He also got sent home because, apart from being the team leader, he was responsible for a truly ugly sort of shrug/jacket.  This is an interesting group of contestants . One thing I notice that they do that none of the previous groups did is that when the model wearing their garment comes down the runway, they comment aloud to each other about their design.
This is the time of the year when my dry skin becomes much dryer. This morning I washed my face and hands and immediately, as I always do, slathered on the lotion. Usually, one time is all I have to do. But I am sitting here aware of the fact that the skin of my hands and face feels tight. My hands especially feel as if the skin is one size too small! I have lotion all over the house in the winter… in the bedroom, in the bathroom, and here in front of my computer so in a few minutes, I will put on some more lotion…
Yesterday I ventured outside, took down the snow-covered hanging baskets and brought the two bird feeders in for a good wash. When I came to fill them with seed, however, I had a lot less seed left from last year than I thought I had  so only one feeder is out and it is only half full. That doesn’t really matter at the moment because the birds have not yet found the feeder anyway.

Ok, on with the day…

Have you ever tried Jergens Ultra Healing? I’ve fallen in love with that lotion, and I have very dry skin. It’s very rich and moisturizing and it’s also a lot less expensive than some of the others that don’t work as well.

I like the norwegian variety of lotion that Nutragena puts out, very nice for taking care of the winter dryness and chapping. I was surprised by Project Runway last night too — but Chris did create that shrug that didn’t fit in at all. I’m amazed that Elyse (is that her name?) is still there, she’s certainly — elsewhere.

We had snow while I was out Christmas shopping the other day and that’s when I realized that I didn’t have a scraper in my car. I’ll have to fix that. It’s cold here, too, but not that cold. Brrrr! ryn: That’s a lovely story about the clothes and the money. I’ll do that too if I choose another child.

*huggs* and it is raining and cold here!

Have you ever tried Eucerin? It’s one of my favorite emollient-rich lotions. Actually, I guess technically they call it a cream, not a lotion. I like the kind that comes in the round container rather than the pump kind. It’s thicker. I love Project Runway, but didn’t realize a new one had begun, so I keep forgetting to catch it on Wednesday nights. =)

Running a humidifier will help with the dry skin. Our energy supplier has told us that a humidifier makes the air warmer so your heater runs a little less. The inside of my nose used to get dried out until I started using a humidifier.

I started using Gold Bonds 7 moisturizer (not cheap) and its awesome and works sooo well!

I have dry skin too and it cracks and gets much worse in the winter. Pure shaea butter is great for moisturizing your skin, but it can be difficult to find. I recently started using Irish Springs Moisture Blast soap and it has helped.
