Better Weather and Misc Things
The temperature went up into the 80’s yesterday but the house remained pretty cool. But because we both like a cold bedroom, I did turn on the air conditioner in there about an hour before I went to bed. Fred is still in bed as I am writing this because he comes to bed a long time after I do. I slept very well and I hope he did too.
Yesterday when I drove down to the library, I was wearing a cotton long-sleeved sweater and I was too hot. So, when I got home, I changed into the only short-sleeved shirt I had out and I am wearing that one today, too. It is time, I think, to put the sweaters away and get out the cotton shirts and shorts. When I went to buy potting soil at the local nursery last week, I asked their advice on planting the window boxes. The man there says he usually advises people not to plant until after May 31st. because here in Vermont, we have had snow in May.So, maybe I shouldn’t put ALL the sweaters away just yet. I actually managed to find Fred a few short-sleeved tops a day or so ago. Next is washing the clothes he wears during the winter and putting them away.
I just called to preregister for my appointment with the orthopedist I see tomorrow and it is a good job I did because somehow I had got it into my head that I had to go to the hospital for this! I am so glad I don’t have to because I HATE their expensive new parking garage. And then when one goes into the hospital, there are miles of long corridors to traverse to get to where one needs to be. Now, writing this, I am remembering why I thought I needed to go to the hospital. It is because I went there to get the hip MRI done. Instead, I go to what is called UHC campus where my primary doctor’s office is but instead of going downstairs, I go up to the fifth floor to orthopedics. OK, that is MUCH better. The parking is adequate and FREE! I am glad I was a dutiful little patient and called to preregister! Of course, I probably wouldn’t have done so if I hadn’t gotten one of their robotic-voiced reminders last night! Not that the preregistration means that one doesn’t have to fill out one of their long forms. It just means I don’t have to answer all the questions about medicare and the people to call in an emergency as well!
Last night I put out a small trash bag with cd jewel cases in it to be picked up by a Freecycler this morning. I wrote "Freecycle" and his name on it and also "not trash" because our landlord has picked up bags I have left out there before and put them in the trash! It is nice of him and I DO appreciate it, but I would prefer that he emptied the trash bins a little more often! Right now, they are full and overflowing. But as Fred says, "That’s his problem, not ours." Anyway, this Freecycle man is supposed to come and pick them up around 9:30 this morning so we shall see.
Things I would like to do today: {Umm, you are noticing that I haven’t said I AM going to do these things
- wash clothes
- find my summer clothes
- put away the heavier sweaters
- continue with the Great Paper Clean-Out. This IS getting done, albeit slowly.
- clean the refrigerator. Something in there is not smelling good…
On with the day…

I have something in my fridge *and* freezer that smells icky. I cannot for the life of me figure out what it is! When I move to the house one of my goals is to start utilizing the attic and storing winter clothes up there when it’s not winter. And vice versa. It’ll be nice to have space to put things.

The weather this time of year is so odd. Wasn’t it just last week you had snow? And now you’re in shirtsleeves. I never plan tomatoes till after Mother’s Day because we can still get a freeze till then. I think I’ll wait till the week after, though, because then school will be out. Yay!

Yeah, I remember getting snow in May when I lived in Upstate NY. Here, if you wait until the end of May to plant you’ve almost waited too long. Hope you don’t get one of those LONG questionaires at the drs. office. Most of them think they need to know your whole life history. LOL Hugs, M

ryn: I’m glad you were my friend first too. It’s way wonderful that I don’t have the whole “oh god my future MIL hates me” thing going on 🙂 It definitely makes me feel better and less stressed. 😀

We are getting into hot days now, but the evenings are staying delightfully cool. I’m holding off turning on the AC for as long as possible. I love having the doors and windows open… there is still enough Confederate Jasmine in bloom to scent the house through those openings… the trade off is there are no lilacs… something I truly miss…..to smell the blooms with the morning dew on them…heaven!

I’m starting to unbundle my summer clothing too. We got hit with some warm for may temps too, and today I found myself sweltering and wondering what in the hell happened to spring?
