*Beep Beep Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!

EDIT: It turned out to be a smoke alarm in his hallway. There was no smoke. It was just malfunctioning, so he disabled it and is going to replace it with a new one.

Both Izzy and I are happy.

I got up this morning feeling pretty good. But that was then, and this is now.

Ever since about 8:00 this morning, something has been been emitting a piercingly loud  beep-beep-beep. At first I thought it was one of those annoying machines that make a beeping sound as they back up and then, as I went downstairs to the basement to put a load of clothes in, I realized that it is coming from our landlord’s apartment above us. Izzy, the German shepherd upstairs, first started barking and then howling. By the end of 45 minutes or so, she was whimpering and I must say, I was almost whimpering in sympathy with her. It eventually stopped for about 10 minutes and then started up again. Now, at almost noon, the quiet time between the beeps is longer than the beeps, but it is still doing it. I have sent email to the landlord and left a voice mail on his phone. Fred has left voicemail, too. These days I don’t do loud noises well at all and this is loud. My head and shoulders are hurting from stress…

I am continuing to do a slow clean-out of stuff I haven’t used for at least a year. Freecycle is wonderful when the person who asks for something comes almost immediately to pick it up and that is what happened yesterday.

Ok, time to go down to the basement and move clothes from the washer to the dryer…

Sorry that’s happening. Hope your landlord becomes more conscious, & it never happens again.

if you and fred are all frazzled about that sound, that poor dog must be miserable. poor all of you!! i hope the landlord comes home soon and fixes whatever it is that is beeping. wonder what it is that’s going off for such a long time? i don’t know how often or how long a carbon monoxide detector goes off. maybe he’s got something that’s gone bad up there. take care,

How awful. Both our smoke and carbon monoxide detectors beep when the battery’s on the fritz, but it’s more intermittent than what you describe. I hope you find the source, and soon.

Random noter: How awful! I can’t imagine what could be making that noise. I don’t know who I feel sorrier for, you or that poor dog caught up there all alone.

I hope that everything is okay upstairs. Is he at work or is he supposed to be at home right now? If he is, I’d go up and just knock on his door to make sure everything is okay. The beeping would drive me nuts, too.

November 14, 2008

Weird. Sounds like his smoke alarm is going off or something. That poor dog. Poor you!

November 14, 2008

Goodness!! I sympathize with you, and the poor dog! I can’t stand loud noises; it would drive me up the wall. Your landlord had better take heed and make amends…..pronto!! :oO !! hugs, Weesprite

I wonder what the heck it is!

November 14, 2008

How awful.

November 14, 2008

That beeping would drive me mad! Poor puppy. Poor you. Poor Fred. I hope you find out what it is, and perhaps it could magically disappear from his apartment…

November 14, 2008

How Terrible! If you can’t get ahold of him by tonite, I’d call the police, myself. It COULD be a carbon Monoxide alarm out of battery juice, or an actual alarm. Take care!

November 14, 2008

What was the noise? It would drive me crazy.

November 14, 2008

Wow – I am THRILLED that you found it. Yay!!!!!

November 14, 2008

love the quote. Sorry you had to put up with the noise. I don’t do noise well either. Hope it doesn’t happen again. I had a similar thing happen years ago when the battery of a smoke detector was going dead. But, it only beeped for a few seconds then would stop. But it beeped like every 15 minutes. It took a day & a half before we finally found what it was from.

November 14, 2008

that’s a good thing. i know it must have driven both of you crazy. take care,

We’re getting ready to start going through stuff and divesting ourselves of things that have gone unused for the past year in preparation for our move. It’s actually a very freeing feeling isn’t it?
