An Email and Other Things
So, this morning, this email pops into my box.
"Cari studenti,
I have just discovered a glitch in my calculation of grades in Italian 1 & 2. I am, at the moment, re-checking my numbers, but I do know that every one will change (for the better). I have informed my supervisor of this, and I will let you know within 24 hours what your new grade will be, and then it will probably take some additional time for the changes to be entered into the system.
I do apologize for this, and for any stress it may have caused you."
and it is signed by la prof! Hmmm, so does that mean my B plus will go to an A? Not that I am concerned one way or the other. I am actually very surprised and pleased with myself at my reaction to this. I seem to have really internalized the lesson that grades are unimportant to me at this time in my life.
It is 8:30 and the temperature is 65. The forecast for today is Sunny. Very warm. High 89F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph. Sounds to me like an ideal day for filling balcony boxes with flowers. And since today is Thursday, the library is open all day so I can take back my two books. I have actually read only one of them. I tried to read the other but it is boring..I picked them up in a big hurry right before I went to give blood for the surgery. I had intended to spend some time in the library but realized that I had forgotten vital and important paperwork and had to go home and get it. So, today I will return these two and spend some time picking out three more. Three is the magic number because I can fit three into my backpack when I was walking! Of course, I am no longer walking so I guess I could get more!
There was a short break between paragraphs here for me to toast a bagel. Once it was done, I promptly forgot it was an onion bagel and put grape jelly on it. It was an odd but interesting taste! I do not recommend it. While I was eating, the phone rang and it was someone from the visiting nurses association asking if I wanted someone to come out and evaluate the apartment for what I will need after the surgery. I don’t know when this person will be coming because now I have said I want someone, it has to be passed along to someone else to make the arrangements. I am pretty sure this apartment won’t need much in the way of changes. There are no carpets for me to fall over. The only thing that might cause a problem is that the shower is not one that can be walked into. It is really a tub in which one stands. We already have a safety bar and a place to sit in there. It would be nice to have a removable spray and I may get that done before the surgery. The tub is actually one with a motor and jets, a Jacuzzi-type thing but although we both tried it when we first moved in, neither Fred nor I actually like taking baths. We both prefer showers. The only steps in this apartment are the three to get up onto the deck and in the back door and, thanks to our landlord, there are sturdy rails on each side of these three steps.
If you are a regular reader, you may have noticed I deleted the count-down for the surgery. It was actually adding to my anxiety and although my anxiety isn’t high, I prefer not to have a relentless count-down to remind me! I have it marked on my calendar with a reminder a week before and that is enough.
Today:
- clean off my stuff from the table
- get a fan into the work room
- go to the library
- ask Fred if he wants hangers for his new clothes {Fortunately, I bought some the other day–you can never be too rich, too thin or have too many clothes hangers }
- clean up the kitchen . There is poison out and I want to be sure the anta have no other source of food but the poison.
- go to the library
- get some potting soil and impatiens.

I still have to work on my grades obsession. When I saw that you might get an A, I felt very happy for you…LOL. That’s great that your apartment is ready for your recuperating period. Most places are not that accessible for convalescing.

Maybe I should work on not worrying about grades. I’ll do it after I graduate, though. 😀 I want A’s! Bring ’em on! And I DID tell you you’d get an A…so there! LOL! I can see that your counter could cause some anxiety. If you want hangers….I can send you a boatload. There IS such a thing as too many hangers…trust me.

an ‘a’ would be very good for all the work you did. i think a count down would be very stressful. hopefully, the 3 steps won’t be a problem. you probably won’t be going up and down them very often after you get inside til you are ready to walk. my daughter has to get a ‘b’ or better as her grade in nursing school. i’m glad about that cause i don’t think i’d want a ‘c’ or ‘d’ grade nurse giving meshots or medicine. that would make me nervous. only the best make it to the nursing certificate. take care,

I’m glad you deleted the countdown. Wondered why it was there.

The only thing I can think of for your apt. that you didn’t mention is a raised toilet. E ahd to have one after his hip surgery. That is, unless you guys already have the higher regular toilet. Anywho, I don;t blame you for removing the countdown. It will get here soon enough without having to see that. Hope you have a great day! Hugs, M

It is so freeing to not be worried about grades and gaining positions of importance! I enjoy just taking classes to learn stuff, and I have a class tonight on Ancient Egyptian Myth and Ritual. I will take notes, though, cuz I do want to remember what I learn! hugs, Weesprite

I tend to get very twitchy about my grades.

Oh, good on the possibility of getting a higher grade in Italia, I can’t feature hanging out with a lowly B student, even if it’s a B+.

Good news, even if you don’t mind one way or the other. 😉

You have go to the library on there twice…. are you going twice? And I can understand the anxiety with this surgery. And possibly an A? Wow, awesome, especially since you wouldn’t give yourself more than a B!

RYN: I am reading Eldest, which is book II of the Eragon trilogy. I would suggest you rent the movie Eragon to see if you like the story, then consider whether you’d like to read them.

i agree that the countdown could add to one’s level of anxiety! Let me know what you planted for flowers. My pots are filled with “supertunias,” snapdragons, vinca vines, spikes, geraniums, sweet potato vine and a few white marigolds. i want to plant the veggie garden this weekend.

I like showers, too. I would have a hard time in our place due to the stairs. I wouldn’t do a count down either. Count downs are for good things…you need a count down for when you’ll feel better after the surgery.

I hope your hip replacement goes o.k. I have slight problems with my hips and also pain in my neck and shoulder, but not so bad that I need painkillers. I don’t know how much worse it will get in the future though!

I hope you get “upgraded” to an A!!
