A Small Adventure in Drawing…

{If you are one of the people telling me that you are still seeing the bread picture rather than the new "Couple with a Globe" picture on the left, hit "refresh" on your browser and see if that works.} Ok, on with the story.

This has been an interesting day so far. I got up, washed dishes and went for a walk. Then I was going to work on my self-portrait. I got most of the preliminary sketch done yesterday but when I stopped I could see clearly that the mouth and chin were not right. So, I got my pad and the pencils and started to look for the kneaded eraser because, let’s face it, you can’t correct a pencil drawing without an eraser, right?     But there was no eraser on the table where I had put everything else. There was no eraser in the art box I have borrowed from Fred. I looked in the bathroom where I working last night but saw no eraser on the sink which is where I had the pencils and eraser while I was working. {Are you wondering why I was working in the bathroom? Well, there is a bright light in there, a stool to sit on and–most importantly–a full length mirror so I could see my face clearly.}

It was about 10:30 by now so I decided I would go to town and get an eraser and since there is an opticians on Church St., I could perhaps get the little plastic nose pad on the right side of the nosepiece of my glasses replaced. I only noticed it was gone last night but I had been wondering vaguely for a couple of days why something was sticking into my nose on that side. Part of the problem was that these are my looking-at-things-in-the-distance glasses and I wear another pair around the house and in front of the computer. I got to town about 11 am and although the majority of the stores in Church St. Marketplace were just opening, the art store didn’t open until noon on Sundays and the opticians didn’t open at all on Sundays! So, I called Fred {hurrah for cell phones } and told him I was going to stay until noon. Then I went to the Burlington Mall and decided to get my hair cut. It is now very short and razor cut. She did an excellent job and I gave her a big tip. Next I went to Bruegger’s Bagels and had an onion bagel with salmon cream cheese. I followed this with a small cup of Ben and Jerry’s Black Raspberry low-fat ice cream. Finally, I went to the art shop and bought the kneaded eraser and. of course,  a couple of other useful things I found I needed.

Finally, I got home and gathered up my pad, my pencils and my new eraser and headed into the bathroom. I set out the stool, sat down and put the pad on my lap. And there, on the floor right up in front of me and tucked up against the shower stall was—yes, you are correct. The old kneaded eraser!

It didn’t take me long to finish the face and get the mouth and chin right. I will have to use a photograph to get the hair finished since my hair is MUCH  shorter today!

Until later..

Apparently I don’t have the right browser to see it. Oh well.

interesting. And yes, its the same with me too… I misplace things only to find them where I had looked. Most annoying. But at least you can use the second eraser.

all you have to do to find something you’ve lost is replace it! take care,

Admiring the very idea of your new haircut. I keep wanting to cut my hair very short, but am influenced by those around me who say the long hair is “me.” Maybe I don’t want to be me any more. I haven’t had my hair short since I was nineteen. It’s SO hot. but I don’t want to have to do more than just wssh it and it’s straight and limp. Decisions, decisions 😕

Never fails… as soon as you give up on finding something and replace it, it will come out of hiding and laugh at you! LOL!
