A Positive Entry

  • If there is one good thing about the negative effects of hospital it is that I am SO glad to be home!
  • We are having beautiful weather– low humidity, a temperature of 71 and sunshine.
  • The only thing left to do on my to-do list for today is to reschedule the appointment I missed with the ear, nose and throat guy.
  • It is, deliberately, a very short to-do list. I am really enjoying doing nothing. Which, of course, doesn’t mean I actually DO  do nothing! But I am doing things I enjoy instead if things that have to be done. Hmmm, why are things on my to-do list things I don’t usually enjoy? It would be interesting to make a to-do list of things I enjoy doing. Read. Do some art. Read some more…
  • Physical therapy is being done regularly. What works for me is to do the exercises that are done lying down first thing in the morning on my bed. I do bits and pieces of standing exercises during the day as I think of them. I am delighted that damage done to my ability to stand straight without support which was caused by no exercises while I was in hospital seems to be improving very rapidly in the days I have been home.

“That which we persist in doing becomes easier. It is not that the task itself has become easier, but that our ability to perform it has improved.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson

i’ve noticed how much the p/t exercises help when you do them every day and not just at p/t twice a week. i’m getting stronger and am able to walk behind a cart in the grocery store this week where i wasn’t able to a week ago. take care,

The nice thing about being in shape is that it’s easy to get back what you lost if you start up again fairly soon. I strongly suspect that if you put enjoyable things on your list, you wouldn’t enjoy them any more because they soon become “chores.”

So glad you’re getting your strength back this quickly 🙂
