A List for the Orthopedic Doctor

I go to see the orthopedist on the 28th of this month which is next Wednesday. This is what I need to tell him.

  • I have had this pain for too long. {I looked back in my diary and found a reference to it in 2001. SIX years ago!}
  • I want some kind of imaging done so I know what is happening in the hip.
  • I want something to be done to take it away permanently.
  • I have had one steroid injection already which worked for four days and then the pain came back
  • I have had physical therapy three times. This works for a short time and then the pain comes back.
  • I can’t walk because of the pain.
  • I am gaining weigh because I can’t walk. {This is the worst part. All that hard work I did for that year is being thrown away. And, dammit, I am addicted to walking! I miss it.}

QUOTATIONS FOR THIS MONTH: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

That’s a good list. And I applaud you for taking control of the situation. Far too many people will just sit back and say, “I will do whatever he tells me to do,” even if they don’t like it or think that it fits their situation. I hope he pays attention to you.

i take a list with me to the doctor when i go or when i take blake. i hope the doctor will be able to figure out what’s going on with your hip and makes it stop hurting now!! ryn: merlyn weighs about 23#. he shouldn’t weigh more than about 20#. we’ve got to get ourselves outside and start walking again. take care,

List making is a great idea.

I need to make an appointment with an orthopedist and then make a list. I’m also having trouble walking, which is interfering with my physical fitness. I hope the doctor can help you get past this and back to walking.

I began doing this when I started having my thyroid problems. I didn’t want to just do what the “good doc” told me to. 🙂

I don’t know what I would do if I had to quit walking. I quit running 4 years ago because of my knees but that’s not unusual and I just switched to biking. Nice switch but winter is out and I also miss out when I travel.

Good for you. I think doctors are more likely to try harder to help someone who is proactive.

I hope you get the answers you need.
