A-Choo! & the Book Club
I am now getting the cold that Fred has just got over. At the moment, it is just sneezing and having to blow my nose a lot. I will take a couple of acetominaphins tonight because I feel a bit headachy too.
I went to the book club meeting today and it was very nice. We met at a new apartment complex where one of our members, O, has just moved into a new apartment with her husband. O had a stroke about a year ago and even though she is a lot better now, she still has to use a walker to get around. I haven’t seen her apartment– we met at a meeting room in the building– but one of the other people said the apartment is designed for handicapped people. Anyway, O loves her new apartment and her neighbors and it is a big chore for her to get out in the snow and come to the library, so today we decided we would meet where we did today for the rest of the winter and make a decision about going back to the library in the spring. My thought on this is that we should stay where we are because the security people at the Mall where the library is really don’t behave very graciously when we have to call them to be let out of the building. {This is not a mall full of shops and people even though it used to be. It is now full of offices and a museum and the library!}
Anyway, another nice thing that happened today is that since it was another member’s 71st birthday, we has strawberries and cream and shortcake biscuits after the discussion. I was not at the last meeting where we chose books but I gave my choice this time. It is The Know-It-All by A.J. Jacobs. It is non-fiction and the story of a man who decided to read all the way through the Encyclopedia Brittanica. I have it in my Kindle because I downloaded a free sample and got hooked!

OOOOOOO, Strawberry Shortcake!!!!!!!!!!!! MMMMMMMMMM!!! Hope your cold doesn’t last too long!! How nice that your book club is going to meet at a place where it’s easier for the said member to get there! Hugs,M

That’s really nice that everyone in the book club agrees on meeting at that lady’s house, to make it easier for her to attend meetings. And also….I never saw a library that was inside a larger building before (though I bet there are actually many of them!)…. seems like the security people ought to be gracious about letting you all out…. most times, security is not a particularly busy job!<P> hugs, Nicky

I like your choice of books.

I wonder how far that man is reading the encyclopedia. Sounds like a lifetime proposition.

When I talk about the encyclopedia to my students, they think it is something to do with the Internet. I still get the emails from my former book club. I wish that I could get it together to have more time.

We read that book 2-3 years ago for Reading Circle. It was interesting. And humorous. We liked it.

I like your quote on motivation and habit. I know that is really the secret of lasting change–to make new habits.

Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Ooooh, strawberries sound delightful right now, and they approach the sublime with shortcake and whipped cream.

I’m sorry about your cold! I thought I had a cold, but half the people in my office have exzctly the same thing and one of them went to the doctor, her headache was so bad that she thought her sinuses were infected, but he told her it wasn’t a cold or sinuses, it was a virus. Nothing much to do about it anyway, but I think I’m on the mend…. if so, it lasted about a week for me. Hope you feel better soon!

I have that book on my wishlist. I would love to hear how you like it.

I hope your cold doesn’t last long! I would want to stay at the meeting room, too. I don’t really see a benefit in going back to the library.

Oh, I hope you can hold the cold off… Nasty things! How sweet of you all to meet at O’s to make it easier for her. That’s what true friends do… Read all the way through the encyclopedia? Oh my. Now that WOULD be a challange! Loves to you! ~M

oh, wow! I’d love to read the entire encyclopaedia! I’ll have to read that book, because now I’m wondering how long it took him to do it!
