Throw Momma On The Plane

Put mom on a plane this morning (actually, dad did. I just saw her out the door at home). My sister is flying her to St. Martien or some Carribeien (oh, I can’t spell!) island along with my niece (same sister’s daughter) for a three-generation romp around the islands.

My mom is in her mid-sixties. She’s really freaked out.

She doesn’t like to fly, doesn’t like to travel “like that”. She’s fine with an auto tour, and didn’t seem to have a problem with their cruise, either.

But, this she’s doing alone.

She’s going out of the country.

She’s got two additional connecting flights.

I’m not quite sure what she’s afraid of. I printed maps of Chicago O’Hare and San Juan where her connections are. My niece said she made arrangements so that my mother will be escorted from gate to gate in the airports. She doesn’t have a current passport, but she does have a copy of her birth certificate and marriage licence.

She also took along several crossword puzzle books, a couple novels, a bag of party-mix, and a whole trunk of clothes.

We told her to have fun. That if she got stranded at any of the airports, to just stay and have a fun 4 days in Chicago or San Juan!
