The short of it
I am sitting in a motel room on the edge of Apache Junction.
For 3 days, my dad and I have driven a 30′ UHAUL down here from The City. We arrived yesterday afternoon.
I went to college here (Tempe, actually). Living here was one of my long-term life goals I had established in high school. Its disconcerting to accomplish your biggest goal first thing in your life. Anyway, I was here five years, and ultimately returned home because of the lack of grass and trees — the lack of seasons.
Before leaving on this trip, many people asked me if I’d be moving down here since my folks were moving here. My answer was varied but centered around, “Been there, done that.” I’ve just bought a home, and will be in it at least for another 2 years.
As we started across the high desert from Holbrook, my dad asked me the same question in a new form: what is keeping you in The City? The answer was, nothing really but I have no reason to move, either.
Then we drove through Payson, and my love of Arizona returned. I was excited and edgy for the whole descent into The Valley, and decided that I must buy a Jeep and move to Payson.
In any case, I’m in Phoenix now until the 11th.
Whew, too warm for me. Heck, I complain about the nasty heat we have in the summer here in Missouri!

You are a brave, brave man, for I fully concur with the above assessment of the temperature in Arizona. Acclimation schmacklimation. At any rate, I hope you have a great time whilst you are there. Huzzah!

I wanted to let you know I was thinking about you and although it is post crisis which makes me sort of feel bad I thought you should know that I realised you come to my mind in crisis because you are my anchor to believing that there are good and genuine people out there. Thank you. ***HUGS***

ryn again: Ah! sorry yes, it was at the Federal Reserve Bank, like 8th and Grand or so. It was almost impossible to get back to the highway! The one way streets, plus the only direction sign that I saw, i almost didn’t see because it was blocked by a tree or something. Glad I don’t have to traverse that every day!
