Not a pin head
Last night was a blast. Instead of my normal Thursday evening (“my night”) at home watching 4 hours straight tv, I unwound with a small group instead. This is a “young adult” small group from our church, but it includes folks from other churches as well. I had been invited to the regular group meetings before, but being winter and grey, I chose to stay home and recharge on Thursday nights instead of spend energy socializing.
But, last night was a “fun night” – Bowling. And, I am charging more and more each day as the days grow longer. So I took the chance of change.
It was a good bet.
I was without a doubt the oldest person there. [chuckles] But, thats okay. Its not an age thing.
I did get to do a little catching up with some of my friends from church. I met several nice women. And I got to humiliate myself before a live audience as I pretended to bowl. [chuckling] It was a good group. When I feel comfortable enough to fall on the floor when I gutter, or to squat and wiggle my butt to attempt to shake a pin over – – well, then you KNOW I am comfortable.
We only had two lanes, and an odd number of people. I played the first game, then set out the second so the other person could bowl. That gave me more chance to mingle. While mingling, one of the women from church mentioned that she used to play [the coin-op video game] “Area 51” all the time in high school – – it was “her” game, and they have one here at the bowling alley. I’m thinking, I used to play Area 51 all the time a few years after I got out of college [chuckle, shrug], and I still do, and its “my” game, too.
So as soon as she bowled her 10th frame, I got $10 in quarters, and we hit the game. Turns out, this Area 51 was totally wacked and wouldn’t shoot… but, they had the Area 51 sequel further down the game row. (fyi: Area 51 is a shooter with teathered pistols. The object is to eliminate an alien invaders without shooting good guys) She was Scully, I was Mulder, and together we knew the truth was out there. It felt like we played for an hour, but, I had change left [g] so it was probably less.
Anyway, it was fun being accepted into a new group, and it was really nice to find a coin-op video buddy. Even if just for one night.
Now, what did I miss on “ER”??!?
