family matters

grandpa, our silence makes me sad tonight.  did you realize for the first time, like i did, how much time grandma spends filling up the room with words?  without her, we are bored, struggling to keep afloat.  i’m just like my father, you just choose not to see it.  tonight, i couldn’t let you get away with your comments, though.  you’re wrong, being gay is not a disease.  it’s not something you pray they will get over, like punk-rock or the flu.  if there’s anything i know for certain, it’s that God isn’t nearly as interested as you think (s)he is in who we fall in love with.  i’m sure it’s much more important to make sure we love well, that we love thoroughly, whole-heartedly.  i’m sure that whoever is in charge of this messy world cares much more that we are permitted to express love the best way we can to whomever we choose.  anatomy is the least of his/her worries.

I’m still praying that my sister will get over punk rock.
