The first camellias, Autumn 2013
It always brings joy to my heart when I see the first camellias of the season, and they are the Sasanqua camellias that bloom all over Magnolia Gardens near Charleston, and, of course, in many of the neighborhoods in town. Our front garden has two large Sasanqua bushes, but they have not yet started blooming. Soon. They are creamy white and splendid and magnficent flowers.
These beautiful shrubs in bloom, the sweet smell of tea olives, the noticeably cooler mornings when I go out on the porch to get the morning paper — all these indicators of Fall are abundantly welcome and mark the change of seasons so clearly for me, as they have for decades. I delight in observing all the reminders of the old season passing and the new sensations to experience with the coming of the new season. Fall 2013 — mellow, moody, memories, longings, hopes — I love Autumn.
At Magnolia the other day, I photographed a lot of flowers, but focused on the camellias.

beautiful. What I love most about camellias is that they herald their beauty in a season that is generally cooler and dismal in many ways…a bright light of joy in the grey winter months. hugs p

Spring and autumn are my favorite seasons, though I do enjoy the first snowfall of winter — which, actually, tends to come in autumn around here! I love the bright fall colors and the crisp, cool air. Around here, autumn also means apple cider, apple butter, apple dumplings — seeing a pattern here? 😉 — maple sugar candies, hay rides, and the smell of wood smoke from the outdoor stove. <br> I love that the camellias begin blooming where you are around the same time our fall colors here begin to fade! Your photos of these lovely flowers help to brighten the day. 🙂

The tea olives have been intoxicating this year. Your plate is so full with your work and caregiving. Try to make some time for yourself to keep your sanity. Your notes are appreciated…it is doubly hard to catch up and note with OD acting like it has been doing…take care my friend….
