“Count to ten”

“I just count to ten.”

These are my dad’s words on how he deal’s with the daily barrage of verbal abuse he receives from Mum.

It’s sad really. He talks about his life in two parts. The first, full of excitement, fun and adventure—he has someone amazing stories to tell. Last weekend he pulled out some old photos, some of which I’d never seen. He’d say, “I lived an interesting life” and he’s not wrong.

But he’s always quick to add, “And then I met your mother.”

That’s the second part of his life.
