The Code

I speak in a song that nobody likes
I cry in a code nobody can read
there’s not much here but an old welcome mat
stepped on, worn through
and black.

I say hello when i’m inside out
it only scares every soul I meet
they haven’t got eyes for a skeleton
who longs for a home
but refuses to bleed.

I cry when you try
to cover my bones
you can’t tell how long they’ve been frozen
I rub them together to try and keep warm
They only ignite
to be put out by storms.

I try to be nice, i try to be sweet
I try to sing inside blocks of concrete
but it’s soundless here
and too heavy to hold
for your arms so alive
around something so cold

This was a fantastic read. I really enjoyed the imagery, especially the bit of a whistling skeleton.
