The Atheist

I used to love you madly
I worshipped you, it’s true
you were the God of Laughter
I was your jester Jew

I read over your shoulder
I memorized those prayers
I was your private voyeur,
then a child, stuck in her stare

I gave up sleep for all those years
I dreamt all night of you.
My hopes were all so vivid, then
unbroken by the truth

We were a church of passion, once
I was your broken pew
and you knelt over my body,
and you prayed when we were through

Yet I always was your congregant
you always were my Lord.
Now I’m an atheist –
Now you’re ignored.

Simply amazing. There is somethign very heartfelt about your writing. This line is my favorite so far “My hopes were all so vivid, then unbroken by the truth.” As always,
