Terrible floods.
Watching the Queensland floods on TV last night was horrific. Toowoomba has a population of 90,000 and it seems to be total devastation up there. More rain is forecast and Brisbane is waiting on the floodwater coming to them. This is a link to the flash flood that swept through Toowoomba with no warning. 11 people have died and 70 more are missing. There are so many towns affected and cut off. The cost will be in the billions of dollars.

We got back from Sydney on Sunday to find out no rain had fallen and everything that had been so green was now dying away. But we must have brought the rain from Sydney with us because we had a deluge shortly after we got home.
Our 9 days in Sydney was good apart from the weather. It rained most of the time and the humidity was terrible. But we had a great time just visiting places, using trains and ferries to get around at the cost of $2.50 a day. I love my senior’s card!
We didn’t see much of Luka as he worked every day we were there, but Melissa had a few days off.
The visit to Sydney Art Gallery to see the Terracotta Warriors was wonderful. To think they had been buried away since 206BC was amazing. And all the tiny artifacts buried with them were so intricate and beautiful to see.
The display was made up of 7 types of figures, 1 chariot and 1 cavalry horse and a general. Also 4 small horses pulling a chariot that weighed 2 tonnes. The figures were about 2 metres high. The detail on them was amazing and of all the figures that have been excavated, no 2 faces are alike. It must have taken years to do it all.
When we picked up the dogs from the boarding kennels they were jumping and barking wildly when they saw us. It was a nice welcome.
Tomorrow the painter is coming to do the inside of the house. Husband would have liked to do it but knows it could make his back worse. The quote we got was far less than expected and included all the sanding back of the door frames plus supplying all the paint. I didn’t expect him to start so soon though.
OK I’m off to work and it’s still raining here. I hope it has stopped in Queensland.
Bye……..
The weather has really been strange the past year.

I’m glad to hear that you had a good time in Sydney. Our rain gauge said we had 3 inches the other night. It was a Christmas gift, a cheapy I think and probably not properly calibrated. The actual was nearer 1.5 inches.

Oh, we saw that flooding and I hoped you weren’t in its path. It looked just awful. The terracotta army is fascinating. National Geo did a wonderful article on them years ago and I’ve never forgotten it. I envy you the experience! RYN: Thanks. I wish you the same!

I’m glad you had a nice time apart from the rain! It’s been on the news a few times about the floods that you’ve had over there.

RYN: You did a GREAT job of describing. I wonder if no two faces are alike, did the artists make likenesses of the actual soldiers or was it their imagination? We will never know.

RYN: Why so much hate filled language? Because it makes for a snappy sound byte and everybody likes a clever sounding slogan. I think the terracotta soldiers were real soldiers who posed for their likeness to be included in the hereafter. As I recall from the pictures in Nat’l Geo, the men’s faces were cheerful looking. The belief was probably Pharaoh-like, in that they would protect their leader in the afterlife. Knowing how easily terracotta can break, I am amazed that so many survived.

The flooding of Queensland is so terrible. Drought and then flooding. Sydney must be a great place to spend time traipsing about as you did. You two are great travelers abroad and at home. Hope you don’t get any flooding or dried-up real estate. Be well, both.
