Tax time and hospital visit.

A million things must have happened since my last entry. Well feels like that anyway. Seems like there’s not been enough hours in the day.
We had a great time in Sydney and really enjoyed seeing Evan singing with Gondwana Voices in the Opera House. It was quite a night. Lots of lovely voices. The youngest group were 5 or 6 years old and sang beautifully. Everyone did a great job.
Meeting up with Melissa, Evan and Luka was soo good too. It was so nice to be together as a family. It’s a pity we all live so far apart.
After we got home from Sydney, husband had a few trips a week into the nearest big town to visit the insurance company who are handling his work injury claim and also the Rehab centre. While he’s not working anymore, he’s still on the company books, and the insurance company has to pay him his weekly wage for another 18 months. But he has to look for work to get this money. I can’t see anyone wanting to employ him with his limitations in regards to lifting, bending and sitting for long periods of time, quite apart from the fact he’ll be 65 at the end of the year! As he can’t sit for long, he also can’t drive long distances, and I’ve had to go with him on these visits. No wonder I’m tired, as I have to rush home for my work. We try arranging the visits to fit in with my work times. The journey is 122 kms round trip.
I’ve been chatting on Facebook to Luka’s mum, using google translate. We leave messages for each other. I was able to put her mind at ease as she worried how he was coping in Sydney with his new job and did he have friends. He loves his job and has loads of friends and she was so happy to hear that. His grandmother was also missing him as they are very close. I phoned Melissa and told her Luka should ring as they were missing him, and to tell them what he was doing. Melissa was delighted that I could leave messages in Polish, although the literal translation may not have been quite correct. When I translate her Polish into English, it doesn’t quite come out right either, but we both understand. Anyway, Luka did ring his mum.
Evan is in Edinburgh at the fringe festival. Just before he left, he messaged me that it was pouring in Melbourne and he was glad to be leaving the rain and cold. I just laughed and told him about the weather Edinburgh had been having since early July. Isn’t that right, Orange Sorbet?
We are having a late, wet winter. Lots of great rainfall, filling the dams. I don’t remember this much rain in years. Thank goodness the rains are nothing like in Europe and Asia. And to think Russia has summer fires and drought. Weird weather.
Since Evan first went to Scotland he has had at least one friend a year die tragically. Another one died just last week. He was only 39 and died of a heart attack. I think that makes 7 friends he’s lost. This guy was the director of plays in the local theatre group Evan was in. He was a really nice guy.
I’ve also been doing everyone’s income tax returns. I love tax time as I always get a refund and it’s so convenient to do it over the net. I also got a refund for husband, Luka and Evan. Melissa had to get a tax agent to do her tax return, as she can claim for so many things as a travel agent and he got her a good refund too. So we’re a happy family all around this tax time. But after I had done Evan’s, when he visited us before leaving he presented me with another group certificate from an employer he had forgotten about. So I now have to do an amendment for him. Unfortunately I can’t do it over the net, as it requires filling out a special form.
Our Federal election is in a couple of weeks. I think it was announced 4 weeks ago, so it’s been a short campaign. 6 weeks is quite long enough though and this time it seems to involve a lot of muck raking. I had to remind Evan to arrange to vote in Edinburgh, as voting is compulsory here and like us, Evan always votes. It will be an interesting vote night. So many people deserting Labor and Liberal to vote for the Greens.
Today I had to take husband into hospital in the next town as he had a minor operation in the day surgery unit. He has to see the specialist to get the results next week. After we got home I noticed he still had the plaster on the back of his hand where the needle was for the anaesthetic. When I went to take it off he about died. Him: “What if it bleeds? Me: So what? You won’t die.” Him: “It was a huge needle and might leave a hole.” He eventually let me take it off, with his eyes closed.lol Such a wuss. He says I am twisted because I love ripping bandaids off his hairy arms, but he would leave them on for days otherwise.
OK off to read some favs then time for bed. It’s been a long day.

Bye…..

Evan will be having the same weather here in our Summer as you’ve been having for your Winter! It’s rained every day here since the end of June! Poor husband, though they do act like babies sometimes!

Boys are never good about checking in at home, I think. Poor M! I’d be nervous about the bandage, too. 🙂 RYN: You should be able to grow them there.

Hasn’t the rain been great? After the drought, I thought I’d never complain about rain again. And I’m not. Yet. Sounds like Sydney was lovely and it’s so good that you can do this Polish translation thing and be in touch with Luka’s family. Blokes are rarely really good at keeping in touch aren’t they?

August 13, 2010

RYN: Yes, but nice to revisit them. 🙂

What happened to hubby? Did he have an accident at work? And why does he have to find another job to get his wages paid? Too many questions? Oops, that’s a question too. <{:0)

August 21, 2010

RYN: Yes, that explains everything satisfactorily! I know I’ve been kind of out of the loop for a while but I think I must have known something about this before and then somehow forgotten about it. I forget a lot these days. I see the Oz election is too close to call at the moment. <{:0)

RYN: Aye, it’s a hung parliament right enough. Actually they should all be hung and then you could hold fresh elections with all-new potential hangees! lol <{:0)
