Our time in Melbourne.

We had a wonderful time in Melbourne last weekend. The weather wasn’t the best but that didn’t matter.
We got into our motel about 4pm and met Melissa and Evan in the city for a meal. Evan took us to a lovely Chinese restaurant where the queue was out the door. But it didn’t take long to get a table. It was good being all together as a family again. Unfortunately it doesn’t happen often enough. After our meal we headed back to the motel while they went to visit some friends of Melissa.
Friday we met about 11am in St. Kilda, near the beach. Still a bit cold but we just wore warm clothes. Then we headed to Evan’s workplace, where he was taking some of the backpackers out on a tour through the city, taking in, among other places, the back lanes which are full of legal graffiti.
The first wall I saw was one where someone had done a tribute to Jill Meagher, a young woman who was murdered in Melbourne a few weeks ago. I took a couple of photos, but the art was too long for me to get the whole lot of it. This murder caused such a reaction in Melbourne. Such a sad time.

I tried making them smaller but am not having much success with Photobucket today, at least with those 2 photos.
It was an experience seeing the city through my son’s eyes, and listening to him explaining about Federation Square, the Chinese influence in Melbourne and Victoria through the gold mining, AC/DC lane and other tales.
Then we went to a roof top bar for a drink, where we had our photo take by one of the tour group.

After that we left them, as we were going to the Rome exhibition and they were meeting up with more friends.
It was absolutely freezing at the exhibition, which we did enjoy, but I was glad to get back to the motel for some heat.
Saturday morning was again dreadful weather and cold, so we just went into the city for a look around. Then had a bit of lunch before going to see South Pacific.
Husband likes the music from the show, but I wasn’t sure he was too enthusiastic about going to see it. However he loved it, as did I. The whole performance was wonderful and I managed to enjoy it without singing along! The male dancers were fantastic too. A great show.
By the time it finished Melissa had flown back to Sydney and Evan was at work, so we went to the casino for a meal. It was too cold though for strolling around so we had an early night.
Sunday we had the Mesopotamia exhibition at Melbourne Museum. That was a great experience, seeing all the extremely old exhibits on display, and listening to the audio explaining them all. It’s hard to think of all the knowledge that they had way back then, and look at the area now.
After that we went to Evan’s hostel, where we stayed Sunday night as he was working. He asked us to come down and see the entertainment which was starting about 7pm. A young girl was singing and while I didn’t know the songs, she had a good voice. Then suddenly she said “I have a request for a 40th anniversary” and proceeded to sing Romeo and Juliet for us! I didn’t know that song either.
We came home Monday to the most fantastic welcome from the dogs when we picked them up from the kennels. Evan had asked me to video them as he knows they get very excited. So here’s the video.

The last week has gone back to winter, with snow falling in Victoria and NSW. I hope it warms up soon as I’m ready for some warmth.

Bye……………..

I just laughed and laughed over those dogs!!! So glad you had fun. You did all the things that would have interested me. 🙂 The kids look good. RYN: It is awful news about his brother. We are trying to get up there and work just keeps piling on. Part of me wants to cry, the other part is glad for the work. Business is booming and it seems as if the recession is over.

What a wonderful greeting home. Other than the cold it sounds like you had a great time.
