No longer in drought!

We’ve prayed for rain for so many years, and now it is never ending. So would the people who are still praying, please stop!
I’ve never seen it rain so heavily. It’s like tropical downpours. The gutter around the roof can’t hold the deluge and rain is pouring over the sides. Lucky we got our broken roof tile fixed before all the storms. And we’re not in a terrible position like people in Queensland and Victoria who have lost everything. For that I’m thankful.
The rain has brought a multitude of frogs back, which have been missing for years. I was always finding them in the dogs’ water bowl on the patio. I finally had to put a stone in it so they could at least rest if they couldn’t jump out. I like hearing the different pitches of the frogs as they croak outside in the garden. And so many different birds have been around too. Lovely coloured parrots. But the rain also brought locusts again, mosquitoes, moths and crickets. I woke up last night scratching and found so many bites on my arms. I wish mozzies didn’t love me quite as much.
We’ve re-made our plans for our trip overseas which was to include Egypt. Now we’re doing a trip from Johannesburg to Victoria Falls in place of Egypt. Melissa and Evan will meet up with us in South Africa. Should be great and can’t wait for it all to happen.
First Vancouver for a few days, then an Alaska cruise, a trip on the Rocky Mountaineer then hopefully over to Washington DC for a few days to visit all the great museums and such. Then on to South Africa from NYC. I don’t think we’ll have time to do anything in New York. Haven’t exactly finalised everything as I am waiting for some replies from Canada.
We bought a new car yesterday. Not brand new but not too old either and it’s on gas. We got a good trade in for our Nissan which has been such a good, reliable car. However when we got home, I discovered that not only had my husband given the dealer the Nissan keys, he had neglected to take our house keys off before handing the car keys over. So the dealer has my door keys, which he’s keeping until we can pick them up. That’s what happens when I leave things to my husband.
I visited Melbourne last weekend to visit my niece who has moved in to a lovely new house. Also stayed for 2 nights with my SIL Georgina and went to see Betty for a short visit before heading home. I managed to leave home before a big storm hit and fortunately I had a good drive down the freeway, not hitting rain until I was on Melbourne’s outskirts.
I visited my mum’s sister who was looking very frail. I think she’s worse than we know but is keeping it to herself and her daughter. She is eating very little and has no appetite but was still pretty chirpy, considering her age and being ill. I just told my cousin to keep in touch with me and let me know how things are.
I started this entry Saturday night but my computer wasn’t working very well so I couldn’t finish it until tonight (Sunday).

Bye……

I hope your rain stops soon! Just used to it here! I haven’t heard a thing from my friend in Victoria who has a farm there. I hope that tshe’s not lost everything.

RYN. Margaret lives in a place called Ashwood, but the farm is in a place called Bright, I think.

I feel guilty getting irritated with the rain over here now! It’s been miserable all weekend in Aberdeen – grey, dismal, wet & windy – we’re used to that but not consecutively for days on end! I’ve just finished Bill Bryson’s book on Australia so I know a little bit more about Australia (albeit the Australia of 2000) now – however with my memory at the moment that’ll all probably vanish by tonight …… lol

Okay! Prayers for no rain! Sheesh! You’re never happy! LOL! Seriously, I’m glad the rains finally replenished the land enough to bring back the frogs. They are thought to be the bellweather for the health of the surrounding environment.

Looking forward to photos of a greened-up Australia. Vermont is called the Green Mountain State. Green is good but the insects ain’t. Wow, what a marvelous travel plan you’ve laid out. Gonna be little of the earth you won’t have seen come old age. Globe trotters extraordinaire. Only continent not yet seen is Antartica? http://www.coolantarctica.com/

RYN: I wonder that myself. They used to be thick through here, but then the snakes started getting them and I thought they’d been wiped out. When the heavy rains come, the frogs start singing, so they’ve gotta be somewhere!

Yes this rain has been something else hasn’t it? I’ve never seen rain like it either here or in the UK.

RYN: No, this is our typical springtime and why tourists flood the area at this time of year. Our summer is beastly hot and humid.
