FunRun in Sydney.
Well I made it to the finish line even though we didn’t run it. We walked it: me because I wanted to survive it and Melissa couldn’t because she has a sore hip and was advised to just walk it. So we hiked along at a fast walk. Had a great time catching up on all sorts of subjects. In 10 kms you can get a lot of yakking done!
The day was nice for it. Not too sunny or I would have got really burned. Doesn’t take much sun to make me red, especially my face.
The last 150 metres we ran, just to say we had run on the 2000 olympic stadium track, and Melissa kindly let me beat her over the line! I’m hoping we managed to get in some of the photos along the way, as there were heaps of photographers snapping away, and the event was sponsored by a Sydney newspaper. So I’ll have a look online to see if I can spy our faces.
And we both got a medal. The first sporting medal of any kind I have ever received. Just shows it’s never too late. Melissa had lots of medals from Little Aths when she was young.
After we finished and had rested a bit at Melissa’s place, we spent the afternoon at a market, which had heaps of stalls. Just browsing and having a bit of lunch was nice. We finally got home about 5pm and watched a dvd while having Thai food. A nice way to end the day.
Today (Mon) we visited Bondi Beach, as I had never been there. Had brunch then walked along the beach and up along the scenic pathway. I think we must have walked about 20 kms all weekend.
Evan came home on Friday afternoon and I had some time with him before I left for Sydney. Then he spent Sat and Sun with his dad, going to markets, the movies and a Jazz festival. So the whole family had a great weekend.
I’m looking forward to being in my own bed tonight though. In the morning I have to pack for our New Zealand trip. We leave Saturday morning and will stay at Melissa’s Sat night then when we get back we’ll spend another 2 days with her. Just a pity Evan couldn’t come to Sydney too, but he has a new job and couldn’t ask for time off.
Here we are at the finish line.
Bondi Beach.
Well that’s it. I’ll certainly sleep well tonight.
Bye…………..
Congratulations on finishing the race.

RYN: It’s more of a whine than a howl. High pitched. You could tell it wasn’t a dog.
