Floods, fires, drought and cyclones.
We’ve had the lot here in Australia lately. Poor Queensland are once again having massive floods after a cyclone, also north east NSW is flooded.
Fires were in Tasmania and NSW a week or so ago, also Victoria where they are still burning, and now West Australia have fires too. Meanwhile I can’t remember when it last rained in our area except for light showers.
Queensland had floods in 2011 and some of the same areas are flooded again. I think the worst is over but people must be devastated. Schools are supposed to be starting back but who knows when that will happen with all the water lying around.
The weather in our area has has cooled down thankfully. Yesterday was in the 20s with a lovely breeze.
Melissa went up to Northern NSW to visit her friend before she leaves for Uni and thought she was going to be stranded there, but thankfully she’s back in Sydney getting ready for her big adventure. She flies out Thursday for Fremantle and her pre-university course which lasts 6 months. Then she hopes to be accepted for her course.
Before Melissa left to visit her friend, she and Evan were here for a few days. We had a nice meal in the Thai restaurant. I did manage to get a few photos.
Playing old Super Nintendo games. This is their usual ritual when they come home. There was much screaming from Melissa and lots of laughter.
In the local park when we took the dogs down the river for a swim.
Another in the park.
I was talking to my niece on Facebook, asking how her dad, my brother Ian, is doing. He is now getting aggressive and antagonistic in his dementia. So they are looking at respite care and then they’ll have to see about accommodation for him. Such a sad time for his wife Dorothy, but the 3 kids decided they had to do something as she was finding it hard to cope.
I think it’s been 6 months since I saw him and he was doing fine, happy in his own world. But we knew it wouldn’t last. I’m glad my mum isn’t here to see her son like he is. I had planned to go down in Feb sometime so I’ll see how things are then. Really sad time for them all.
I’ve spent the last few weeks making bookings for our trip. No wonder Melissa is tired after a day working as a travel agent. It’s a lot of work, looking at timetables and trying to line everything up. I’m not going to look at it again for a while, as the rail bookings aren’t open yet. Probably mid Feb I’ll have another look.
I’m still working early mornings as my driver hasn’t got the ok from his doctor to return to work. Hopefully this will be the last week of it though, as I’m tired from the early starts and the hot weather. And being tired I haven’t done my usual walking on the treadmill for weeks. I’ll have to start back at a slow rate and then catch up.
Well that’s it. Nearly the end of January and my daughter off to University hopefully mid year. Luka is visiting his parents and friends in Poland for 3 months. Evan I’m not sure of. He started a new job, part of which was running a comedy night. But the boss is not letting him do his job and has also “insulted the most successful comedy room runner in Melbourne by lecturing him on how to run a show” according to Evan. This is a guy that Evan knows and was excited about having him doing the show. Not going to happen now of course. I don’t think Evan will last long there. Why hire someone to do a job then not leave them to do it?
Bye………….
We saw the fires and the dust wave and the sea foam. Australia has been hit hard this year! The family looks wonderful. 🙂 RYN: I think its pretty obvious. These athletes can deny all they want, but endurance and muscles like that are not normal.

How great to hear from you! Yes, there are still people desiring money above animal welfare. And leopards are already an endangered specie. You have beautiful happy pictures in this entry. Just lovely people. It is really such sad events with the flooding, droughts and fires there in your country. Here it is all over the news as well. We think of your country daily and hope theresidence will be able to recover their lives. We have similar events here currently but not on such a grand scale as over there in Aus, although thousands of people are also currently homeless because of it. Good luck to your daughter with her new adventure too. One of the best experiences in her life is lying ahead.

RYN: If she had kept it to criticism, that would have been fine, but when she tried to turn my poem into a competition, well, I’m just too old for that silliness. I wasn’t in the least saying my state is better than hers and I think it is childish of her to interpret it as such. It was the tone that I found tiresome and I’ve learned from experience that it’s best to just cut bait when that happens.
