Family gatherings.
I’ve had a nice couple of weekends catching up with our nieces and nephews with their partners and children one weekend and the next one Evan came up for a few days.
The BBQ we had with the first lot was wonderful, seeing all the relatives we hadn’t seen since they were small. All now married or engaged and some with their own kids.
The only thing that spoiled the time were the monstrous sized mosquitoes which were feasting on me. Even with spray all over, they still caused quite a few lumps on my arms. We had 2 visits with them, each time was a night BBQ as they had all been out during the day. The 2nd night was even worse, so we didn’t stay long.
The next weekend Evan came home to pick up some stuff and stayed a few nights. But as he worked a double shift before getting here, he spent the 1st day sleeping.
He seemed fine when I asked how he was coping. It’s been 10 months since his girlfriend died. Melissa says it’s time he had a new one, but losing someone in those circumstances is far different from just breaking up with a person. I did tell him not to be a loner, as life does go on.
The weather here has turned really cold and it’s only March. I’ve had the heating on a couple of mornings, when usually it’s not until April that we need it. Winter is long enough without arriving early.
And even though it’s been cold, the mosquitoes are still around, even during the day. Husband has been complaining about them biting him, but if they stay away from me then I’m happy. I just laughed when he said he was bitten as they usually bypass him to get to me!
We’re going to Sydney for a couple of days to visit Melissa in mid April. Hopefully Evan will be able to come up from Melbourne and join us, but it always depends what shift he’s working.
As well as going to Sydney I’m visiting my brothers in Melbourne just a few days later. One of them has dementia and his family are trying to have his driving licence taken away, so he must have gone downhill since I last saw him. I wonder how his wife is coping?
I tried on a pair of jeans yesterday and can’t believe they fitted me. My weight loss is now 23kgs and even Evan said “are you getting smaller”? I thought he meant in height.lol But he actually noticed I had lost weight.
I spied a nice pair of shoes yesterday in my size, which being a size 10, isn’t easy. But when I tried them on they were too big and there were no size 9s left. So my feet definitely have changed too.
It’s the start of the football season here and tonight is the first match. You’ll probably hear my husband when our team plays their first game on Thursday!
Luka’s band started a tour last night. Newcastle, which is north of Sydney was the first gig. Then I think it’s 2 nights in Melbourne and back to Sydney for another 2 nights. Not sure what other dates they have coming up but I hope they went over well last night.
My SIL was in Hawaii for 10 days and it’s given me itchy feet. There’s so many places I would like to see and not enough money to see them all unfortunately. Unless I win the lottery! Ah well I can dream can’t I?
Bye………..
Congratulations on losing all of that weight! Don’t you usually put mosquito repellent on your skin when you go out, though I suppose when it’s cooler you don’t expect them!

Sorry to hear about the mozzies – they will fly an extra mile to get to me, usually, and it is hard to reconcile using RID, which has nasty stuff in it, with the nasty bites I get if I don’t. That’s one bad thing about so much water lying around. CONGRATS! on the weight loss! I have been backsliding – the change in medication has revved up my appetite, unfortunately. Gotta get back intothe exercise!

RYN: Thanks for the note. I also love Animal, but I had a specific picture in my head of Courtney Love and the first thing that came to my head was Animal. Between the wild hair and crazed expression they both had, it seemed valid. 🙂

RYN: …. to make you ‘go’ I think!! I seem to remember getting Milk of Magnesia for the same reason – double yuk!

RYN. The tram work came to a stop for a long time because they ran out of money and there was a lot of controversy. I think that they changed contractors eventually and started again, but it’s all a terrible mess, and the tram lines won’t go very far!

I’ve never seen larger mosquitoes than when I was visiting Alaska. Filthy, awful little creatures! ryn: True, but it tickles me a little bit when people don’t get it. Hate notes are almost better than the love notes. 🙂
