A week in the life.
Actually it’s more like 2 weeks since I last wrote. I had a great time in Melbourne after returning from our Sydney trip.
I drove down Friday before last to my husband’s sister’s house. When I told her I was coming to Melbourne she invited me to stay the Friday night, and I arrived at her house about 6pm. I couldn’t get her to answer the door, so called her mobile. She had gone to bed as she mistakenly thought I was coming the next week. Thank goodness she hadn’t gone out because it was a long drive through peak hour traffic to get to her place. We had a good time catching up, although she couldn’t say what was really causing her problems as her husband was home, and he is the problem! So we just talked about the family and things in general. I stayed the night with her then left lunch time Saturday to visit my other SIL Georgina. She and my brother are long divorced, but she’s still family and we’ve always got on well.
Georgina’s daughter Christine arrived with her 6 month old son. It was the first time I had seen him and he reminded me of Evan as a baby. The only difference was Evan wasn’t a wriggler. Jett never stopped moving, even when he was being fed. And being a solid baby, he could wriggle right out of his mum’s arms he’s so strong. All of Christine’s kids look just like her. We must have strong genes.
I didn’t get to see my aunt, as she was admitted to hospital. I spoke to her daughter today and she seems to be doing quite well after what she’s been through, and considering she’s 85. Hopefully, she’ll continue to improve.
Saturday night I stayed at Georgina’s. I called Evan to see if he could meet me Sunday morning, and he suggested we meet for breakfast. However as he had been working late Sat night, it meant I had to call and wake him up before I drove to his place. I must have rung his mobile 5 times with no luck, so left a message telling him to have a nice sleep and we’d breakfast another time! He called me about noon, apologising for not waking up.
On Sunday, Georgina, Christine and I went to the baby shower. WOW the food that Betty’s daughter prepared was magnificent. I was totally off the diet when I saw it all. She is such a great cook and had made lots of different kinds of cakes, but in bite sized portions. Also some hot pastries and sandwiches. I’m sure she could be a fantastic caterer as she’s so versatile with her ideas. She and her daughters had also organised games to play. It was a really nice day. The mother and father-to-be were getting really excited about the upcoming birth. She’s due late May early June, and has tried for quite a few years to fall pregnant, so everyone was thrilled for them.
The weather during the whole weekend had been great, so when 4.30 came I decided I had better leave, as I wanted to be quite a bit up the highway home before dark. I had left Betty’s about 10 minutes when the skies opened, and I had to pull over as I couldn’t see to drive. I was just deciding I would have to stay the night when it suddenly cleared, so I headed over to the highway. It rained some more but not as heavy. Once on the highway, if I get beyond the dividing range, the weather always changes, and as usual it did. However in the distance I could see lots of lightning and really dark storm clouds, but they always stayed to the right of the highway, so I had a pleasant drive. It rained when I was about 30 minutes from home, but I made it home in one piece by 7.30. I was lucky to miss all the extremely heavy rain which was falling everwhere but where I was!
So that was the end of my 9 day holiday break. I had a wonderful time.

About 12+ months ago my hair suddenly changed from wiry to soft. It seemed to happen overnight. My hairdresser is as puzzled as I am. When I was looking for some info on the net, I read that it’s usual for hair to go wiry as we age, but I seem to have reversed that trend. I have lost my natural wave, and now have floppy hair that wants to lie in a side parting, like when I was 10! The only positive is that it’s not as thick as it used to be. Anyway after trying to tame it for the last year, I’ve given up and am now growing it, a thing I could never do. During the 60s when all the girls were doing the long, straight hair bit, if I tried growing mine, it would only get down to below my ears, then would grow outwards and get bulky. I used to have some struggles with it!
So I’ve decided to keep it the way it wants to be, in a side parting, and tuck it behind my ears, hoping that some sort of style will evolve! Wish me luck.
Bye………..
Weird about your hair! Mine is soft and floppy and has always been like that!

My hair has gone wiry. I didn’t know it’s normal…I thought it was me! Sounds as if the visit was full on but fun. Glad for you. 🙂 RYN: I’m just hoping the reporting actually DOES something about the spam.

Sounds like you’ve been having a good break too. Really weird about the hair. Hope it does lovely things for you. Mine’s always been fine, thin, straight and boring. Never thick enough to be really nice and not getting any thicker as I age…. Yuk!

Thanks for visiting my diary and leaving a note! It led me to your diary! My hair did the exact same thing as yours as I aged. I expected to loose my natural curl but it’s curlier now.
