We have updated our Privacy Policy
You all have probably been seeing this same message a lot the last few days from all of the online accounts that you work with, so probably not surprised to see the same from us as well.
The reason for all of these changes is a new set of laws in the EU called the GDPR – if you’re interested in that kind of thing, you can read more about the GDPR here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Data_Protection_Regulation
The short version of this is that GDPR is a new set of laws that impacts any online concern that does business with residents of the European Union and the European Economic Area (which includes us here at Open Diary). This has created a set of regulations on internet businesses that forces all companies (including ours) to use higher standards of security and transparency when handling personal data.
Personal data is classified as anything that can be used to identify an individual – a good example is email addresses, which we use at Open Diary for registering accounts. By being in compliance with these stronger regulations, websites are doing a much better job of securing and protecting personal data.
The other part of GDPR is that it introduces certain rights that have to be able to be provided to the users of the site. These include:
- the right to delete all data associated with you from the service
- the right to extract all data associated with you from the service
- the right to modify your information that is stored by the service
The good news for us is that much of GDPR has to do with protecting users from misuse of their personal information through resale of that data, or use of your personal information in unclear ways like targeting advertising or tracking your activity – and these are all things that Open Diary does not do.
We never resell your personal data, or place it into tracking cookies or beacons to be used by advertising companies, and do not in other ways distribute your personal information to third-party services. Your privacy is very important to us at OD, and by being in compliance with the latest GDPR regulations, we are happy to be providing that service in a more secure and transparent way.
Please be sure to read the new Privacy Policy, it is available here: https://www.opendiary.com/privacy-policy/

Thanks!
Is there a way to download my diary content, except by copying and pasting entries one at a time?
@singer we are working on a download function, it should be available in the near future.

Singer brought up an interesting point in her post about this policy. I, too would like to see a correction to this.
