The nose knows …
Since arriving here I’ve had to put up with a bunch of smells. Friday night was the cheap male prostitute smell in the hotel. Then Sat. & Sun. night it was cow shit. Since there are 2 or 3 meat processing plants in this city, they house a mess load of live cows until it is time for them to "be processed" so needless to say we have to deal with the shit smell. What is sad is that the nearest plant to us in 3 miles South of us. UGH! Then tonight I went outside to have a smoke and a damn skunk has sprayed somewhere near. Seriously? I’d rather smell the cow shit than skunk spray. Wonder what the smell will be tomorrow?
I had forgotten how much I loathe the shit smell. In England we lived around farm land and the farmers would use pig shit to fertilize the crops. Guess what? The cow shit smells the same. I had hoped after leaving England that I would never have to smell that smell again. I guess 11 years was long enough lol.
Got The Child registered for school today. I have to say I was totally amazed. You know those packets the kids bring home the first day of school that is about 20 pages long that you have to fill out? Totally had to do that today … BUT … the girl asked me the questions, put the info in the computer, asked me to sign the little pad (like when you sign for your prescriptions at the base pharmacy or credit card machines at stores) and then printed everything out and BAM! it was all done! I only signed my name that one time yet my signature was on every form. Sweet!!! Saved a lot of wear and tear on my already overworked, over stressed carpal tunnel syndromed hands.
Cable was hooked up today also. Yay! Of course the cable guy wasn’t too thrilled lol. After giving him a tour of the house and showing him which rooms would have service, he just hung his head and shook it side to side lol. Between the 2 different satellite dish lines and previous cable lines, he had a rats nest to work with. It probably wouldn’t have been so bad if the previous owners had not run the lines to the various rooms themselves LOL. Anyway, he finally got it all sorted and we have cable in all rooms that we wanted. He even hooked up a phone jack in the living room since the only one was in the kitchen. However, he did run into one little minor thing … an outlet in the living room doesn’t work. Well, the top plug doesn’t work but the bottom one does. I wonder how many more are like that in this house?
So, as you can see, we did finally get into the house on Sat. When we showed up about 11:20 everything was gone except for the 2 dishes. Our Realtor said that they stay with the house and if we want them gone we have to call the satellite provider to come remove them. Whatever. At least the god awful pigs were gone. Everything that was required to be left behind was and then some. The Realtor went around to make sure all lights worked, all water faucets/shower heads worked and toilets flushed. Hubby opened all the windows. I pulled the fridge out and inspected the flooring underneath it. Thank goodness there was no water damage! No mold either.
So the issues we found with the house: main toilet had a slight leak into the bowl. Hubby got that fixed (sellers said they were NOT paying to have anything else fixed). The central vacuum system works downstairs and in the garage but not on the main level. Which is really not a big issue with me since I will only use my Dyson anyway. Now I just have to stash all the attachments out of sight! The one window in The Child’s room was not fixed. You can open it just fine (it has a handle you turn around to open/close) but you have to go outside to push on it to close it. The main bathroom tub faucet doesn’t not stop running when you turn the shower on. My Dad said I can pick one up from Walmart for about $10. I had to unscrew the stopper in the tub because the tub filled up to over the tub jets while taking my shower. I’ll only need the stopper when I take a bath anyway. But that won’t be until I clean the jets first. Speaking of cleaning …
OMG! I did not realize how spoiled I was living in base housing till we moved into this house on Sat.!! I spent hours cleaning the fridge and oven/stove/microwave! It was nasty, nasty, nasty!! I’m used to moving into a spotless house and that was so NOT the case here! We aren’t using the water/ice dispenser on the fridge door until I can figure out how to take them off and soak them in vinegar and/or bleach. The water dispenser has white crust all over the inside & outside of the small tube. And God knows what the chute looks like inside for the ice dispenser. Once I get some free time I’ll look into how to best clean them. In the mean time, we can just get ice from inside the freezer and we have plenty of bottled water.
We got The Child’s room painted yesterday. I need to do a little touch up in the corners where the 2 different colors meet. Once I get that done (need a small brush) I’ll post pics of the before & afters. Now I just need to work on the living room and the rest of the house lol. I have to wait till the 1st to buy the paint for the living room and then I can get started on it.
Our furniture comes tomorrow. I’ll be so glad to sleep in my bed! My air mattress has a slow leak in it so by the time I wake up in the mornings, it is almost flat lol. It is not fun let me tell you! I’m tired of sitting on the floor also. And I want to cook. I’m tired of canned and microwaveable foods. I want some real food lol
Ok, I’m done for the night. It might be a few days before I get back on here. Depends on how tired I am the next few days unpacking lol.
Till next time ….
We gets smells here (even skunk… people LOVE to run those over)… some are good smells… some aren’t.

RYN: Wow that is just crazy. I can’t even imagine just dumping friends like that. I have such a tiny circle of people that I call “friend” and each one is so important to me. I guess thats why it just upset me so much that she didnt feel the same way apparently.
