Odds and ends and so forth …
First – Y’all be some paranoid people! Like seriously! LOL Don’t worry, the entry I want to do isn’t a "bad" entry. It is more like a WTF? and me trying to work through a lot of "I don’t understand" kind of things. Once I can afford the OD Plus again, I will do that entry. In the meantime, I’ll just continue to go with life as planned.
Second – OD why you gotta be so difficult? My life is complicated enough as it is and now you want to throw in "Oh let’s make her work to find any new entries because it’s so much more funny when she has to take the time to go to each of her faves to see if a new entry has been posted versus having it listed on her bookmarks page". Yeah, thanks OD …
Shell shocked – OMG! So The Child has pestered us over the years to take Karate. We’ve kinda just indulged her in the moment but never followed through with it because she is famous for starting something and then quitting. Except for Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts is the only thing she has stuck with. We’ve done ballet and gymnastics and soccer and cheerleading and such but she would get too sore from the practices and then quit. So we knew it would be the same with Karate. Well, a few weeks ago, this town hosted a Health Fair and we decided to go so that I could find out at one time what health care professional took our Tricare insurance and which ones didn’t. That saved me a lot of hours spent on the phone calling these same people. Anyway, while there (and remind me to talk about me in a few minutes) the local Karate center was there and offered a couple of free classes. She begged and begged and begged so we said alright since it was free.
So they called this past Sunday to set up a free one-on-one for Mon. night. I took her (Hubby didn’t want to go) and she fell in love. I have to admit, I kinda did too lol. Afterwards, they offered for her to come to a regular class the next night, again for free, and if she was still interested, then we could sign her up. Master Scott was adamant that Hubby attend that class, to which he was not happy about. Especially since his job had him work over and he had to rush to shower, eat & change so we could get to the class on time.
She had a smile on her face the entire 45 mins of the class. She was pouring sweat, and smiled right through it. Hubby and I sat there with grins on our faces because we were so excited to see her happy. Afterwards, we went into the office and proceeded to talk about her joining on a full time basis.
$180 a month people. One HUNDRED and Eighty dollars a MONTH people! Not a year, not every 6 months … every month! Plus there was a $200 deposit. $380 up front!! Granted she could attend classes up to 5 times a week but Master Scott doesn’t recommend that for beginners because it can burn them out real quick. He recommends 2 times a week for now and then if she wants to, she can add in a 3rd time each week. You best better believe I will get our money’s worth out of her! LOL
I swear, as God and you people are my witness, if she quits this anytime soon I will strangle that kid! Mark my words!
And it doesn’t just end with the classes. Oh no. In order to earn belts, she has to earn points that don’t involve going to the classes. Apparently this place doesn’t believe in just having them come to class, learn the moves and giving them a belt. Though that is one of the ways she earns her belts. But there is a lot she has to do when she is not attending classes. She has a chore chart she has to do at home each week and turn in to Master Scott; a homework sheet (to prove to Master Scott that she is being responsible and dedicated at school also); there is a "recommended" book for each class that she, along with Hubby and I, has to read, plus any books she is reading for school and/or just for fun – and this is all recorded on a weekly sheet that is turned in also; Each week she has to document 10 things that she did/initiated – that is not on her chore chart – on her own without being asked to do it, which also has to be turned in; she has to practice what she learned in class 20 to 30 minutes each day in front of us so that we can initial the sheet; She has 2 creeds she has to learn and memorize for the classes; and then each week Master Scott puts up a "saying of the week" – for example: "Winning isn’t everything; wanting to win is." – and she has to interpret it into her own words and explain how she can incorporate it into her daily life.
Looks like I have just as much work cut out for me as she does lol So help her if she quits!!! So … help … her ….
Oh and get this, this Friday night they are doing "Ninja Night" which is where the students come spend the night (7pm to 8am) and have fun and stuff. They only have it once a year as a fund raiser for new equipment. She is begging and begging and begging and begging to go. I hate having to break her heart, and I know there are going to be some angry, choice and colorful words said by the time Friday gets here, but there is no.way.in.hell.she.is.going. Now if it was next month or after, then I would consider it. We just met these people 2 nights ago. I am not going to allow her to spend the night with a bunch of strangers!!! She was trying to convince us last night to let her go and I explained why we were saying no and she says, "You can come too, Momma, and spend the night so that you won’t be leaving me alone with strangers." I looked at her and said, "There is no way in hell I am going to spend the night in a tiny ass building with a bunch of screaming kids. Child, you have lost your damn mind if you think I would consider that!" Seriously though, y’all know I can’t and won’t tolerate someone else’s rude, mis-behaved, snot-nosed brat. My house, my rules, I can discipline your unruly child; I don’t have that luxury outside of my house. So no thank you, I’ll just keep my distance from future prison dwellers/baby making machines/welfare recipients of the world. But gotta give her kudos for trying lol Besides, she’ll be getting to go on overnight trips with her Girl Scout troop so it’s not like this is the only chance she has to have fun.
My medical issues – so I mentioned earlier about the Health Fair we went to. While there, we took advantage of some free screenings. I did the skin cancer screening and bone density screening. Those of you who know me in real life know that I am covered, head to toe, in moles. I’ve had plenty removed over the years. So since it had been a while since I had last had them checked, I took advantage of the free service. Yep, I have a few on my back that need to be removed. And one on my forehead that will need to be frozen off. Oh joy. Then, apparently, I am below average in my bone density and it was recommended I speak with my Doctor soon about preventative care. Especially since osteoporosis runs in my family and I have an Aunt who is in remission for bone cancer. The fun just never stops for me eh? LOL I’ll make it to a Dr. here eventually …
Painting – paining is coming along, if slowly. I have the living room, dinning room, basement staircase and kitchen done. Next is the hallway and bathroom. I feel so much better now when in the living room now that the god-awful pink wall is gone!
It dried a tad bit darker than it shows in the picture (the top of the wall is truer to the real color it is now) . It warmed the whole room up. Especially the floors. I can tolerate the wood floors better now lol. I hated how the "cold" colors made the house feel so unfriendly. But now it is warm and inviting and very welcoming. Just like me! LOL
Ok, I think I am all caught up for now. I need to do a few things around here before Hubby gets home for lunch. Dumbass re-injured his back at work yesterday tearing down a diesel engine and now he wants me to go with him to his work-appointed Doctor appointment at 12:30. It never ends around here! And tomorrow I get to look forward to a half day of school and parent/teacher conference and no school on Friday. Yay me. lol
Till next time …
