Daddy’s turn …

So we all remember these …

The infamous "Punishment Shirt" that has become quite the effective tool when keeping my kid from being a total hellion.

Well now my world is complete. Because The Child is all about finding loop holes and ways to get around getting punished by me so that she doesn’t have to wear the "Punishment Shirt". Not that she has tried that tactic yet, but I knew it was only a matter of time before she got smart and realized she’d be able to do so.

Parenting 101 – Rule #1: Stay one step ahead of the heathens.
Rule #2: If rule # 1 is not feasible, at least try to keep up with them. Never ever let them get ahead of you.

So here is my attempt at being one step ahead … or at least staying even with her …

Bwhahahahahahahahaha I give you "Daddy’s Turn" …

Doesn’t she look just so thrilled?

So Girlfriend lost her (mine actually) iPod in Walmart last Saturday. I was almost 100% sure that it didn’t fall out of the cart, and I knew no one reached in and grabbed it. So the obvious choice was that she laid it down somewhere. We retraced our steps twice to no avail. We went to customer service and left our info with them. She cried and she cried and she cried. She didn’t even want us to leave the store because she wanted to keep searching.

Hubby was through the roof mad. Which just made her cry even more. She was heart broken about losing it but I think she was even more heart broken at him being mad. I finally calmed him down by reminding him about the times (2 to be exact & there may have been a 3rd time that I am forgetting) he "accidentally" left his MP3 player at the gym and when he went back to get it, it was gone. So I had to remind them BOTH that accidents happen. We are all guilty of losing something, even something expensive. The lesson to be learned is that we try harder in the future to be more diligent about keeping up with our stuff. Or we leave it at home.

An hour after returning home, Walmart called to inform us that they had found it. So her & I go back. She had it password protected (I don’t even now how to do that to my iPhone!!) so I had her unlock it just to make sure it was hers. Then I made her give it to me, and she was grounded from it for the week. Walmart said they found it in jewellery on top of a ring display, which is the last place we were before going to the register, which is then when she discovered it gone. We kept looking at the floor & shelves so that is why I missed it on top of the display (not to mention the display was taller than me lol).

Hubby kept wanting to severely punish her over it. I figured losing it to begin with was punishment (not a full complete punishment) but then when she got it back & then still ended up losing it for the week, well, I wanted one more "point" to make with her. Since we know how much she hates the "Punishment Shirt", I figured using that again, but for his benefit, would make our point with her.

So on Monday, I kindly informed her that we would be going to Walmart to pick up prescription refills & then pulled "Daddy’s Punishment Shirt" out of her closet. The look on her face when she saw it was so priceless. A look I will never forget lol. She didn’t know I had bought it (when she was in Ohio) and was equally horrified that I had bought it lol. She then proceeded to inform me that she was not going to Walmart with me.

"You will wear it." I kindly informed her. And then proceeded on with, "You will wear it all day long. I WILL be taking your picture at Walmart of you wearing it so that Daddy has his proof of you wearing it." The look on her face as I was saying it, made me realize real quick what was fixing to come out of her mouth so before she had a chance to utter the words, I cut her off with, "If you argue with me ONE time, and just one time only, you will wear this shirt all day today, my shirt all day tomorrow, Daddy’s shirt again all day Wednesday, my shirt again all day Thursday and Daddy’s yet again all day Friday. And I will make sure we go out into public each and everyday, and I will take your picture each and everyday while we are out in public, and I will post said pictures on Facebook for all of mine & Daddy’s family and friends to see." Then I just gave her my "look".

"What time are we leaving?" she mumbled, with a long drawn out sigh.

Bwhahahahahahahahaha

Score one for Mama!

She thinks she will be safe during the school year since she has to wear uniforms to school. If I found a way during summer break, believe you me, Child of Mine, I will also find a way during the school year. That is my promise to you. That is my duty to you, as a responsible parent.

I have more to write but I am going to get off here and go enjoy my day off with the family. It is my 2nd to last Saturday off till her birthday.

Till next time …

I’m glad that it was found. That is amazing in and of itself!! I need to find a comparable shirt-punishment for my kids.
