A family that works together …
A family that works together is lucky that they don’t kill each other. LOL Especially when you are a part of my family.
Hubby was complaining that I don’t ever come downstairs to watch tv and be a part of the family. I’m sorry but I can’t just sit there and do nothing when there are so many other things I can be doing. Like reading my faves on OD. Or serving food in my café in Café World on Facebook lol. Or painting a room in my house. I like tv and all but I can only handle so much of it at a time. It sometimes baffles me when people talk about how much tv they spend watching per day. But hey, if that floats your boat, more power to you lol. I too have my favorite shows but most of them are in the summer months so …
Anywho, Saturday I decided to give Hubby what he wanted. I parked my butt downstairs at 10 am and proceeded to remain there for the rest of the day. After a few hours he was like, "What’s up with you staying down here? Don’t you have Facebook to check or something?" My reply was, "I can check FB on my phone. You were the one who was complaining I don’t spend enough time with the family watching tv." By 6 pm he was going bonkers LOL By 8 pm he decided to head upstairs to our room so he could *watch tv in peace and quiet* … guess he won’t be complaining about me not watching tv with him for a while to come lol. And we won’t discuss how "antsy" I was all day just sitting around not doing anything!
On Sunday he decided we needed to tackle the garage and all the empty boxes. Of course it wasn’t enough that I was the one who unpacked 80% of those boxes. No. I had to help break them down also. Even though I had broke down 75% of them when I had unpacked them. The ones that weren’t broke down were full of paper. So anyway, I had to pull my "fair share" of the work. Pfffttttttttt. Whatever.
Now we have all heard me mention his Einstein tendencies. We all have them sure. But some of his could win some first place prizes in the "WTF were you thinking" category. Case in point … remember I mentioned a while back he wanted to flatten out all the packing paper to save for future use? I agreed that it was smart to save the paper … flatten it out … not so much. We would go back and forth on the issue. So sometimes, you just have to let them discover it for their own good. So we proceeded to empty the boxes of the paper and put them in a nice neat pile …
Once he saw that, yeah, he liked my idea of bagging it all up much better. You’d think that after almost 20 years of being together, he’d have a clue, and understand that I am the better planner. But whatever. At least he got there. Better late than never. Can you see the ladder buried in the back???
Seventeen 55 gallon and four 30 gallon trash bags later we had some semblance of order ….
It only took about 30 minutes with the 3 of us working. The Child and I took turns – one would hold the bag while the other stuffed and the next bag, we’d switch. Hubby was on his own lol.
Next up on the To Do list was to get all 21 bags and 200 + boxes up into the attic … with a 4 x 4 opening (and I am being generous in the measurement). Going up and down the ladder was dangerous at best. Obviously there is only so much an 11 year old girl, who’d rather be doing anything other than hard manual labor and spending time with her parents, could do. So we came up with the plan that Hubby would stay up in the attic, I’d be up on the ladder pushing things through the opening while he pulled from his end, and The Child would hand items to me. That didn’t work. First the ladder took up some of the precious limited space there was in the attic opening. Second, I couldn’t get enough power to push with one hand while hanging on to the ladder with the other. So we went to Plan B …
I ended up turning the ladder into a makeshift scaffold. And because I am so graceful and all, I put a piece of plywood across the top so I wouldn’t fall through and because the center of the ladder made the plywood uneven, we stuffed boxes underneath to give me more stability. Because I am an accident waiting to happen and I just don’t need to help along The Powers That Be … no matter how much entertainment they gain from me. Oh, and thanks kid for taking the pictures when I wasn’t paying attention. I did good though, only lost my balance twice and was able to save myself from falling by grabbing the shelf with the paint cans on it. Of course I near about peed myself both times, but I didn’t fall. Yay me! She would put stuff up on the plywood, I’d reach down, lift the bag/fold the box in half, and shove it up through the opening. That took a little over an hour because Hubby would need to stop for a break to stretch his back since he spent most of his time bent over due to the slope of the roof and then she would "need a break" from lifting stuff up onto the plywood. But at least it is done. We have boxes and packing paper if we need them in the future.
Oh, I finally got word late Friday afternoon that my friend is okay!! I was so relieved when I got the message. Now if we could just get our schedules to coincide so that we can talk, I’ll be much happier …
We have our first visitor coming for Thanksgiving. I’m so happy. I would love for Amber and her family to come also but her Hubby’s work isn’t going to allow it. The Child is ecstatic that "Uncle Mark" is coming. Hubby is too lol. I’m just glad I get to cook. I love to cook my big meals! I can’t wait to cook my turkey using the apple trick I learned year before last. Unfortunately, Mark is diabetic so I am going to have to alter all my recipes. But it can be done and will just make things more interesting for me. I do occasionally love a good challenge lol.
Okay, I have indulged in enough "me time" this morning so I will get off here and go get some more things done around here.
Till next time …
Damn… if Amber could make it… then we could all get together and… I don’t know…. make crop circles?

I’m glad you were able to get all of that up there without hurting yourself. Eek! Yes, I wish we could come but I’m glad you’ll still have company!
