She’s finally here!!
This post is nearly a month late but that’s okay.
We welcomed our precious little Squeak to our family on November 28th. Remember me saying I had a feeling she was going to come early?? She was 10 days early, in fact!
I woke up that morning at about 4:15 with minor contractions. I didn’t want to call the midwife right off the bat in case it was a false alarm but the contractions steadily got stronger and closer together so I called her at about 10 minutes to 8. We met at the clinic around 8:45 – it would have been sooner but I had neglected to pack the hospital bag so we had to throw that together. When we got there she checked me out and I was dilated to 3 cm. She did some prodding and said "Uh oh…I think we have a little bum down here." We were all like "Whaaaaaaat!?" because we were all pretty sure she was head down. So either she did some quick flipping – which I think I would have felt – or she just had us all fooled. We went up to L&D and did a quick ultrasound and sure enough, she was breech. By that point the contractions were really intense and had me puking. Gross, I know. Because she was breech we decided a C-section would be the safest option. They got me on the table at about 10 and she was born at 10:23 am. Poor little girl!! She was literally folded in half – her legs went right up her sides and her feet were up by her ears. No wonder she pushed so much and so hard during the last month or so of my pregnancy. She had to have been so uncomfortable!
THT was able to be there in the room for the surgery (so both of his children have been born via C-section now, he’s never been through a real labor either haha!) and had the camera so he snapped a lot of pictures of her being pulled out and getting cleaned up and then the midwife snapped pictures of the three of us just minutes after she was born. They couldn’t really set her on my chest because the curtain was in the way, but they set her on my shoulder and THT steadied her. And honestly it was love at first sight. I couldn’t help the tears springing to my eyes…after waiting for her for so long (it may sound weird but I’ve known I was going to have a daughter for my first child since about 2004) and she was finally here!! And she’s so beautiful.
I didn’t get to hold her for very long because I had to go to recovery, but after a bit there they did bring her to me and I was able to feed her for the first time. We were able to come home from the hospital on Dec. 1st.
Everything has been going really well since we brought her home. She is growing like a weed already! I hear people say it all the time about their kids but I think it’s something you have to experience – I literally could not imagine loving anyone more than I love her. She and THT are my life and I thank God for them every day.
(By the way…she’s been dubbed Squeak for blogging purposes due to her adorably squeaky little cry…which we hardly ever hear because she’s such a good baby!!)
