Wind, Wind pass us by!
I am on the phone right now with my homeowners insurance company. We had received a letter stating that when the renewal for homeowners/wind insurance came up for renewal in Jan.07 the wind/hurricane portion would be eliminated but that our company would assist us to get coverage with the Citizens Ins. company that was formed to help FL residents with wind coverage….”We don’t know how that was overlooked, but your home is in the Wind Pool” “The coverage should never have been on your homeowners”….Well, that’s a fine kettle of fish!!!
So, talking to my agent office…I have just found out that our homeowner/hazard, flood, and wind insurance all due in January will be about $4000.00 !!! I am flabbergasted…how would someone on a fixed income be able to afford these increases and still have coverage in case of a disaster….I will shop around and see if someone will give me a better deal…but, I doubt it. Luckily, we both have good jobs and will pay to have the protection….but, what about in a few years….I guess OHIO…here I come!! Have a great weekend friends…
Good gracious! that is expensive insurance. Perhaps you would be better paying into a damage fund of your own and having the interest on it?

I am so sorry, Ollie, when the people of the Gulf Coast, who have already suffered so much, are burdened with even more problems. It is a sad fact when business takes precedence over people but it happens. I hate to see you and Stanley have to leave your Paradise. RYN: Thank you so much, dear friend, for your compassion and love! And also thanks about Michele. So far it is quiet on the home frontbut only time will tell. She is seeking legal help now as well as counseling for her and the children. Much love,

I didn’t realise that in USA you can actually get separate cover for wind. Another lesson about your country I have learned lately. RYN: couldn’t help smiling at your note re getting kitties….I seriously considerd getting another one a few days ago…needed to cuddle something cute and loving. Realise though it was the wrong reason. Honey couldn’t adjust to a newbie anyway, shes too old. hugs

This is the first time I’ve heard of a “wind pool” I know about the flood planes. Pretty soon they’ll rule out any damage for weather related problems.

Isn’t it interesting that environmental issues play such a large part in the balance of the economy, especially as it affects homeownwers. I keep wondering why Las Vegas and Los Angeles exist. They cannot environmentally support the population and tourist trade. Instead they pay to rob huge watersheds that have small populations and cannot fight the mega-cities. I don’t know about Florida andits future with natural disasters but I do think that it is very difficult for a region to maintain a high population that has expectations for essential services. Eventually this will break down because the real fact is that the planet and atmosphere in that region cannot support wind-resistence, and power requirements from its own watershed. My great grandparents lived on the gulf of Texas. One huricane distroyed everything. They left with only what they could carry. The one obvious exception to the rule, in my opinion, is New Orleans. The heart of that city will exist no matter what happens as it had done for at least 10,000 years. The indigenious people never invested in bricks and mortar or dikes because the natural enivoniment would distroy them. (c)

(c) To live anywhere we must accept what the natural envionment provides. Insurance is a bandaide and may disapear with any mega-sized natural disaster. Living with an active volcano, and having spent time walking the remains of a large city that Vesuvius distroyed so quickly that the population did not leave, I feel as though we live in a gamble — we make the best decisions we can but we cannotever plan to be protected from the environment no matter where we live on this planet. Therefore, we each have to be prepared to walk away with nothing. I really don’t want that to ever happen to you, Ollie, but it could happen to any of us. I tend to think that we are all renting space on this planet but we will never own it. So we must choose where our happiness is and where we are willing to take the enviromental risks which might leave us homeless. Sending you love,

RYN: I’m not certain about that time detail for the cyber peace rally thing being in EST…I think it is GMT. However, if each of us did a prayer or something at that specific time in our own locality, it will mean that worldwide it is one continuous stream of conciousness throughout the 24 hour day. What do you think about that? The main objective is to connect and unify people for peace…..there are many ways that can be achieved. much love to you my friend, hugs P

With those exhorbitant insurance rates I like the idea of diverting the would be insurance money to investrments that pay dividends. If the prperty is destroyed, accept the loss and use the money saved to start over
