Of smoke and love bugs

The air has been filled with the smell of fire and smoke for at least 2-3 weeks around here…no rain…the sky is gun metal gray…the air appears foggy….the plop plop of love bugs hitting the windshield as I drive gives me a false illusion of raindrops….now we hear that red tide is blooming in Boca Grande…..yikes…..did I paint a pleasant picture..?  We are really getting desparate for some rainfall….restrictions are in force…..the standing water levels are dropping….The forecast is for rain today!  Hopefully we will get a good drenching…..

I am home today.  Work is easing up as the snowbirds have all flown North….this also makes my commute easier.
We keep our eye on the prize….our moving to SC near our daughter…..it is exciting finding all the interesting places we will be able to visit.  I am really proud of my dtr she has her real estate license and is very upwardly motivated.  I keep my emotional wall up regarding my sons….I can’t dwell to long on them or I start to cry….We keep in touch with the grandchildren at birthdays and holidays…but, we never hear back…..I am banking on this for a possible relationship with my grandkids for the future….

Good times lately with our neighborhood friends….8 of us went for pizza and beer last Friday and home to play Euchre!  It is an Ohio/Michigan kind of card game….maybe elsewhere too…I’m not sure….but, Stanley and I had not played for at least 20 years and this was true for 2 of the other couples….so, we first had some catch up lessons and then the rules all began coming back…..it is a fast fun game and very competitive!…..especially for the men!

I am so angry at the arrogant little bastard……I can’t wait for 2008…..I heard Joy Behar on the View comment that America should get very angry about what is going on….well, let me tell her we are very angry….we are just to busy working and paying for health care and gas! to really protest….well, that is not exactly true….the pen is mightier then the sword?…..

Have a great weekend friends and please do the rain dance for us!  Hugs,

I know… sighhhhhhhhh At least you had some fun. I would love to get together and play cards. I used to love bid whist. When we were young and poor we played cards with our neighbors several times a week. The good old days when all we had to worry about was that crook Nixon.

Hi, Ollie, we have had some nasty rains here and I heard that it was headed your way. Slidell got seven inches of rain yesterday…god, that is flash flood problems. I do hope you get the rain. Sigh, I wonder how we are going to survive Bush that much longer. I want someone to please make sure that he is recorded as the worst president in history!! Lots of love,

hi from Japan. Thank you for your comment regarding global warming. Here in Japan, many alarmists warn that there could be a serious water shortage in the summer. They blame global warming for water shortage. Have a great weekend.

considering your summer is just starting and you already need rain, it must be scary! Certainly defeats any arugments against global weather changes and warming, doesn’t it? Sorry to learn things are still so sour regarding your sons……I know its no comfort, but sooner or later they will wake up and realise what they are doing. Try and enjoy your weekend, and Stanley. hugs P

Oh, yes we are angry and we are busy–that’s true; Ollie, NC is a beautiful place to live and if your daughter and you are close that would be so healing for you. I’ve been far behind on reading so didn’t know that was a possibility. I take a coffee break with the view’s opening monologue…but probably won’t for long now — the conversation hasn’t been very intriguing or intelligent lately, chatter that I’ve heard on TV since the 60’s still continues in the wake of Rosie’s leaving. She was obnoxious at times, yes, but spoke my thoughts often enough. many regards

we have had lots of rain here. My yard is a jungle. It is so bad that some get so much and others not enough.

Aloha… Ryn (6-08-07): Thanks for the info… I really appreciate it… The urologist said that I would not be put “under”… just given a local… accompanied with valium… Sigh…

Ollie, I hope you are having a good weekend. Your nice notes are always much appreciated. I hope you will really enjoy S.C. when you can move there. It is a beautiful state, and you know I am a bit partial. 😉 Take care, my friend.

Hi there! Well, I can understand you agree with Willy, but there is no problem with us sneaking in from Mexico. We are very happy here, have good social sucurity, (the best in the world) and the same for medical care. I just replied Mags, and I don’t want to post it twice. So, in that note I express why I do not agree with this system. It’s not about ‘sneaking in’ it’s about traveling. HUGS.

Hi Ollie! Thank you for your note! I write more real soon. Next week is my last week at school before summer vacation starts! Yessss! I am exhausted. Tomorrow my pupils will play their annual concert. Still much to do tonight. I’ll be very happy when it’s over and Sunday. Will stay in bed till noon maybe. Smiles. Hug.

Early satellite pics showed the Arctic ice cap was about 20% bigger than it is now. That’s a lot of ice water dumped in the oceans. The San Francisco Bay Area used to have winter snows that covered the ground with inches of it. Haven’t seen that for many decades, or even weather cold enough to freeze water pipes out in the cold.

RYnotes: We’d love to come over and play cards (Poker, hearts, spades or bid whist) but hold the beer. We come from beer drinkers on both sides of the family and two of our kids like beer but we have never developed a taste for it. Isn’t that odd? We had a family party to welcome Bud’s nephew’s newly adopted infant daughter to the family. It was great. What a good baby.

RYN: Periwinkle is the light smokey blue. Cobalt is the rich dark blue. Now they have peacock which is a vibrant blue with a touch of aqua. I love them all.

Once again thanks for the notes, sweet Ollie!

Thanks for your note – yes I am fully recovered from my op and a year on am feeling like a new woman. We do have free health care in Wales – but I was lucky enough to have private health insurance – paid for by the company I work for. This cut out the waiting for an op which might have taken years. I hope you get some rain – you could have some of ours – it has rained almost non stop for over two weeks here and we are mightily fed up with it and would like a bit of sunshine. Take care.
