Of home and work

The months of June and July have been whirlwinds of activity for both of us. I don’t remember everything we have done but I know we have been busy! We finally have gotten a few good thunderstorms, but the water table is still very low. Stanley has spent a lot of time in the yard, it is so easy for it to get so overgrown…We have lost all our fishies to some hideous nigh time creature…with green piercing eyes, a low gutter growl, and a slow but steady ravaging devouring appetite. (Well, no I made that up) but SOMETHING yucky has ate all my poor little fishies….We had chicken wire over the ponds to deter the large white egrets, but something else came at night and was able to slip under the wire and eat ALL of them. The fish were large at least 8-10 inches long and Stanley had built them some really good hiding places. It makes me very sad to think of them being eaten…yuk, it is gruesome so we will move on.

My last day of work at the surgery center was June 22….I just couldn’t keep up the pace anymore….as an operating room nurse I was responsible to push the patient and stretcher into the operating room and prepare the pt. and the room for the surgery….well, I just don’t have the stamina to keep up with the routine. I loved the docs I worked with and my team but I was sleeping all the time at home. They were all sorry for me to leave and had a great party for me on Saturday after my last day. The food was terrible but the music was great…we all sang and danced to 60’s music all evening and most of these kids are 20 to 30 years younger than me!

Since I had some extra time off my daughter came from SC and brought my grandson and granddaughter for a week. We had a good time and didn’t make a plan so there was a lot of beach bummin and relaxin and eatin out. Ahhhh my idea of a great time…heheheh…I did take them to the wonderful Ringling museum and home Ca d Zan. Which means house of John….my grandkids had fun because they knew how much their Mama loved art. My daughter is a real lover of the arts and she could have stayed for about a month just because of all the beautiful art in the home. I think I am more a lover of God’s art in the great outdoors….even though…I do have art appreciation for the great masters. So, we had a very restful fun week together. Stanley was only off for a couple of days so he took us in the little pontoon boat over to the beach….I think I could drive the boat but I don’t take the chance. Anyway, my granddaughter is a redhead like me and we had to be careful she was protected from the sun. She has beautiful golden skin but very sun sensitive…. My grandson gets brown as a berry even though my daughter is very careful to keep them "greased up"

The week before they arrived I luxuriated and rested….stopping to clean a little and read alot. It was a very refreshing restful week for me! I should have written some entries then but I didn’t and it isn’t because they aren’t ever present whirling around my brain…I just don’t type them up…. I think about everybody and I note alot but I don’t put my own thoughts into an entry of my own….

It has been so very very hot and humid. I am getting to the place where I am not as satisfied but I know I am very fortunate to live in this beautiful place so I chastise myself to not complain about the heat or bugs or taxes….hehehhe

We are enjoying the beach every Sunday as is our routine. We can really see a difference in the water quality since the time we moved here 14 years ago. The beach is dotted with the yellow slat markers, marking the turtle nestings.   It is fun sometimes to get to the beach very early and see the flipper trails up from the water, the big splay areas of sand far from the waters edge, then the trail back to the water. The volunteers from the Mote Marine patrol the beaches to mark the turtle nests and sometimes even to put wire cages over them to protect them from raccoons.

I have a new job….and I am hoping this is the last one before I can really retire….I am working as a care manager for a new company that helps families and elder adults navigate the treacherous waters of our healthcare system. I am the binding link to help seniors stay in there home and still manage to get to the doctor, understand what he/she is telling my client and then pass this info on to sons and dtrs up north or overseas electronically with the permission of my clients…..As RN’s we can help seniors stay in there homes and be safe at a much lower cost then it would be to go into assisted living or long term care…..It is a dream nursing job and you all know how much I love to organize…but, not overbearingly…..

Well, I hear Stanley stirring his coffee….so I want to go and join him…..

hugs and have a great weekend

I have been trying to follow the democratic debates…..and I still like good ole Dennis….but, I am not sure if he will get enough backing or support to carry out his "Peace Plan"…

You had me going for a moment with the scary thing that got to your fishies…I do hope your new job goes really well. I can just imagine you being of such a great help to folk. Then when you retire, you can come over here and help out with ours, which seems to be as complex as your own. love to you and Stanley.

I am so sorry about all your fish…..I know how that feels….I used to see kingfishers ( even wandering dogs) getting at mine when I had a pond. Its heartbreaking. The beach is a great place to be, especially during your hottest days. And good luck with the new job…. hugs P

The missing fish could be from coons. They have hand-like forepaws and make pretty smart use of them. Would like to hear more how you help seniors stay in their homes and be safe at lower cost than in the long term care facilities. Am 93, have a nice home, & still seem to be in good health, but that can change. I would prefer leaving the estate to my kids instead of a nursing home getting it

Such a wonderful time you share here–I am glad you are not continuing with an exhausting position when there are many options for nurses. You appear to have found a wonderful way to help people in this new position. We have long time care insurance to assist us to stay in our home for a long time if we choose, perhaps our contacts will be in a similar position then. I had no idea you hadbeen in FL that long, by the way. I love the area you live in–ours is not as tropical nor does it have the water experiences you mention…but we love it here, too.

The new job sounds much better. There is a shortage of qualified nurses and as we boomers retire its getting even worse. We may have to work through our 80’s!

I hope you enjoy your new job. It would be frustrating to try to protect your fish to still have them end up as somethings supper.

Life stays ever on track, dear Ollie, even though it may not seem like it. I am so glad you had your child and grandchildren down to visit…just wonderful. Retirement will come, my friend, with happiness always with the love of your life. Much love, A.

yeppers to: “hello boys is that the chatanooga choo choo”. Wonder what happened to songs with singable melody?– At least, I can’t find any in this current stuff, altho the drum kind gets me swaying to the beat.

Thank you very much for your comment and advice, and for your age I think I will have to say that you are the coolist grandmother I have ever seen. Hope you can solve the fish problem.

Thank you so much for your lovely note.
