Good ole Dennis

I received this email today and I like Dennis

Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH), who has led opposition within the Congress to the war from the beginning, issued the following statement on the war Supplemental funding bill on the House floor Monday evening:

“Mass death on the installment plan. That’s what this supplemental vote to keep our troops in Iraq is all about.

“Today Iraqi civilian casualties number well over 100,000. Iraqi civilian injuries could be over one million, but who is keeping track? Some act as though the Iraqis are not real people, with real families, real hopes and real dreams and loves of their own.

“We have lost nearly 2,500 of our own brave soldiers. Up to 48,000 troops have suffered physical or emotional injuries that could scar them and their loved ones for life.

“Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Steiglitz says the war could cost $2 trillion dollars. Two trillion dollars for war while the American people are told we don’t have enough money for job creation, education, health care and social security.

“The Administration went into Iraq without an exit strategy not because they are incompetent, but because they have no intention of leaving.

“We are spending hundreds of millions building permanent bases in Iraq. The Administration recently announced deployment of no less than 50,000 troops in Iraq far into the future. We are looking at the permanent occupation of Iraq.

“And so the long cadence of lies has led to Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo and Haditha, soon to be replaced by more lies and more tragedies.

“What can you say when you are watching your nation descend, sleep walking, into something like the lower circles of hell in Dante’s Inferno?

“You can say stop it ! You can say enough blood is enough blood !

“You can stop it ! Bring our troops home !

“You can say no to any more funds for this war ! And then we can begin a period of truth and reconciliation about 9/11 and Iraq. Begin the healing of the soul of America.

The Bible says, ‘He who troubleth his own house shall inherent the wind.’ Our house has been troubled by this war based on lies. What will our inheritance be?”

I always liked Dennis. In fact, I took one of those tests online during the last campaign and I was most in line with his thinking… about 96%. Thanks for your note. I am so sad.

take care,

I agree that the American people are the losers in this. The cutting of more and more programs to be able to send more and more money overseas. Somehow this just does not seem right. OUr congressmen should be told it’s time to stop.

yay! Its heartwarming to know there is a real humane man over there somewhere in your govt system…just wish they’d take notice of him. What sickens me most is that Bushs’s recent brief visit to Iraq did not show him the human side of it all.. the dead, dying and desolation, yet it would have cost several million more in security for him. grrrr. hugs to you my dear friend…P

This is a horror that we saw happening, Ollie, and did we stop it, no! Bush is a warmonger, an ally to those people who want to make money at any cost, including millions of lives, while the rest of us, who do not die, struggle to survive. We had a voice in 2004, just like 2000, but did we change it…no. Our voice means nothing to this dispicable man and the way he manipulates…

this country as he did in the 2000 election. Where is our ability? What does it take to rise up against this man and his administration? We write about it, talk about it, and do nothing! How do we stop it? I don’t know but we have to somehow!! Thanks for posting this!! Love and hugs,

not much time for notes–wish all public buildings were wireless equipted, myself…but not yet. Had to come to say to say thanks to you for your heartfelt note while I sat with a cup of good strong coffee this morning. K’s mom died of a heart attack at about his age, her sister died on the spot w/one at 55: I have thought of them so often this past week, wishing they’d had the chance K does now

Many thanks for your good friendship during his bout with CA and now this. Off to get ready for my day. And my two hours of it with K.

ryn: I totally agree; when I say I want him out…of course you know….I want him progressing as fast as possible and as healthy as possible. His concept of intensive care isn’t as positive; like being in prison, as he puts it, with those tubes, the toliet in the corner, and no freedom to do as he pleases. We’d probably feel the same on the fifth day, were it you or me. And, I dread the depre

drepression that usually comes in recovery; I am much better with being uwith ill people than being with depressed people. Pushes my old buttons, since my mother was a depressive person and–obviously–I chose the opposite path, being a romantic realist, liking to lean toward the options that are up-beat, etc. Lot of growth ahead for me if K is depressive–he’ll be yet another good teacher

Off to see him at nine; thanks for your notes, Ollie. I always feel you and your fella are there should I have questions, etc. That’s so reassuring.

ps…just read your entry here..its great. Bravo for the sentiments. Of course it doesn’t help that the US govt also are providing such a warmongering example to the middle east countries….as well as a legacy of poverty and disease in its own. Its heartening to learn the opposition to the Iraq war is still fiery. hugs again P
