Boards up! Boards down!
On watch for a turn to the left we watched Wilma hanging by Cancun…..so sunday Stanley and I spent the best part of the cloudy day putting up our hurricane boards…the house became darker as the day progressed…and the air became more and more humid. We finished about 3 pm just in time for a great downpour….we had hoped for a windy beach walk…but it was not to be…We went to bed sunday night expecting the worse but hoping for the best!
I woke about 3:30am as the electric flashed on and off…it always scares Rosie…so I think she woke me…I rose and let her out…even though it was really blowing and raining she went out the door in a flash…the dog can’t stand blinking lights! I turned on the TV and as of then no landfall for Wilma except that the eye would hit about 100 miles south of us….I tried to get Rosie in then and she huddled behind my big pots in the front of the house…"Come on little girl" "Come on in" ears down and hunkered she would not budge….I went and got my umbrella and went out and pulled her by her nape hair into the front door….toweled her off and myself…and settled down again…
Lovely to sleep till almost 7am….but the moment I awoke I felt the jolt in the pit of my stomach! Did I sleep thru the storm….I sure did! When the house is boarded up it also becomes very soundproof….
Again we have been fortunate no damage and not much debris…no loss of power and safe and secure…it rained and blowed most of the morning on Monday….but around 1pm the sun came out and the air really cooled down and it was a beautiful Fall day here….low humidity and sunny and cool…..Sooooo…yesterday Stanley began to take down the boards….it is part of the price to pay for paradise! I raked and occasionally would help him carry the plywood back to its little storage place… We know how fortunate we are….and greatful…….
I’m thankful you are safe and with no damage. We have had some blustery rainy days and the western part of our state got a foot of snow! Last week we considered turning on the AC… wacky weather.

It is with a true sigh of relief that I read this, Ollie!! I worried about you all and I am glad that once again you have made it through without too much damage. The afternoon after Rita came in the morning the weather here was gorgeous. Go figure? Animals do react to storms and Rosie was just doing what she felt. She has a good “mama”! Much love,

Glad you were well. we went to miami where we have friends who were in dire need of assistance. Was glad to be able to help out and once they got power we were glad to leave after six viewings in one day of wizard of oz. mom has a rule, only twice in a day, but dad kept giving in and letting her watch it again and again. i said, we came to help, not to be tortured. 🙂 *grin* *hugs*
