The Brooklyn Brujas series
Brooklyn Brujas book 1, Labyrinth Lost, in Spanish (which I think has a much cooler book cover in Spanish too), wow, I am loving this reading experience so far and I am reading it perhaps more quickly than I do in English when I can’t concentrate very well. I read some of the first chapter in English, too, and all I know is this is some of the most enjoyable sometimes poetic prose and I wonder if but doubt that I would have the same experience of it in English. The characters are so relatable. It is an experience of relative fluency in reading and then I make it a practice to think in Spanish, whatever comes to my mind to think about, and with all that Spanish just recently downloaded it is interesting to notice what comes out of me, often things I didn’t know I knew how to say, and it is so good for practice, I haven’t even obsessed about writing down vocabulary or making flashcards. The way words often repeat themselves in readings and looking at the dictionary and then practicing thinking in Spanish is flashcards enough for now and I can just get into the story… and I haven’t looked forward to a story this much in a long time. I kind of feel like even in the first few chapters I haven’t gotten into something like this in a really long time, where I just look forward to the next thing I’m going to read and… I really want to know what happens in this story!
What about Esperanto? Are you into that??
@simplypurrfect My grandfather taught me what esperanto was a ling time ago and I thought it was really cool. I’ve always wanted to create a language. I just looked at the Wikipedia article for it and wow the Chinese government uses it to deliver news and the Vatican has a podcast in Esperanto? There are thousands of native speakers? Cool and weird! I like the idea but I don’t know if it will ever be the international language it was meant to be… I’d be into learning it but I am more interested in natural languages (or creating my own) and I’d probably learn Latin before Esperanto.
@oliver-in-the-mist Love Latin. It is so not dead. 😀 Sometimes I will put random latin words in my subject lines! 😀
