find out what it means to me

Respect is about acknowledging that the thought and emotional processes that give rise to a person’s opinions and actions have a fundamental worth; therefore these opinions and actions deserve one’s consideration and should not be simply dismissed, even if one disagree with their specifics.

I wouldn’t say “fundamental worth”. The thoughts and feelings of all people stem from some combination of their experiences and their physiology (?). None of these have any objective worth outside of evaluating them in a context – they are all simply facts. It flirts with determinism I guess, but makes it easier to accept and understand people’s behaviour.
