Just gotta keep cool…

I sat half watching the tennis yesterday in absolute awe of these people that run around in 36 degree heat. I physically could not make myself do that… in fact I don’t think it’s fair that Tennis Australia makes them do that either! But hey, I guess the pay somewhat compensates things. Having said that I felt extremely sorry for the little chicky that dropped from heat exhaustion… she had to forfeit her match! Grossly unfair in my book of books.

The mercury reached 40 yesterday. My little house on the hill got hotter and hotter and hotter and hotter until we all just sat there dripping… it was pathetic and horrible but there was nothing I could do. The sad thing is today is set to hit 42 and I still have no idea how I will cope. The cool change is supposed to hit tonight so I’m just hoping that it comes swiftly… I don’t think I can cope with many more of these heat waves.

My options for finding a cooler place are limited (just as they were yesterday). Mum and Dad don’t really want the entire hoarde of us converging on their house (I mean if I’m going barmy with the kids now, I can only guess how irritable my mother would be). I don’t really have any friends that would want to put up with me and my brood just so that we can languish in some wonderfully cool house and the only person that I might be able to rely upon for that is Pip who is currently in hospital with Polonephritis (which, if I interpret/understand correctly) is an inflammation (hence the "itis" bit) of the kidneys which seems to be because of the strain baby (she is 32 weeks pregnant) is having on her. So meh. Big big bum bum bum to that. I mean… I could try to spend an entire day at a shopping centre but I think I’d just lose my cool because there is bound to be 30,000 other people sharing that idea. In sheer desperation we took the kids to Maccas (McDonalds) last night so we could just sit in the air conditioned loveliness… that AND I wasn’t going to encourage my house to get any hotter by cooking… blah. My mood instantly improved the second I walked into the place and we stayed for ages and ages (by drawing out the eating process – thank god for Sacha being an infernally slow eater at times!) I was proud of myself… I had the herb fusion chicken salad which is only 2 points… yay.

My options aren’t looking terribly sporty.

I woke up earlier (despite not getting to sleep until 2.30am) to air the house out then as it got warmer I closed it up again and tried to encourage total block-out by hanging a few of my dark doona covers over the blinds. I hope it works.

Not being one to let something as fickle as a heat wave stop me (if I’m uber motivated), I still did my exercise video last night. As much as I love Anna (my personal trainer!!!) I felt like I needed to mix it up a bit and the video that I have is no impact (which helps my ankle) and mainly toning. Boy does it ever work! Despite waiting until the house had cooled down I still managed to sweat out most of my vital nutrients… I did the workout first, then the abs training (because I’ve lost mine so he’s helping me "rediscover" them) and then the cooldown which invloves mainly yoga positions (and I love love love this bit of the workout). Given all this activity I am hoping that I’ve lost a good amount when I weigh in this week. I keep looking at the size 14 dress that I bought ages ago that I want to wear to the wedding in Perth (and Ok, size 14 probably sounds rather big to some of you eeeeeny girls out there, but hey… it’s my first major goal! lol) so I am keeping it firmly in my sights. I’ve also unpacked the box of size 14 clothes that I have (I also have a box of size 12 and size 10 clothes!!! wahahahaha) so that I don’t lose my motivation.

So yeah… that’s about it I’d say.

Ugh this heat is ridiculous, I dont blame you at all for staying at Maccas just to enjoy the cool air, I would have done the same.

Goodness, isn’t the heat atrocious? If I were in Melbourne, what you’re getting is hot but would be lovely because here 44 degrees is a bit much really. Yeah! I pity you so much though because although it doesn’t work sufficiently, having no air-con would be the end of me in this heat.

January 21, 2006

Just make sure you don’t send that heat up my way Missy moo — I just bought some spray on panty hose and I don’t want to streak in the heat LOLOL. xoxoxo mmmwwwwaaaaa

I want to know where the Perth heat is!!! It’s barely like spring here. RYN: I only put down the first ones I saw!!! I could have easily put down Basement Jaxx or Scissor Sisters, but I’m not ashamed to admit I’ve made a few musical mistakes in my time. So there…

thats good that your trying one dress size at a time i find if u set yourself to high at the start u never get there good for u

We spent last summer in Bunbury, in an older house with no aircon! (or bats in the roof) I can feel your pain! I sat when ever I could, with my feet in a bucket of iced water with the fan blowing on me….but trying to sleep was murder! Hope that cool change comes soon for you 🙂

I’d kill to be a size 14! Good luck with your goals.
