Goodbyes in the middle of the night…
Today I’m a bit bleary eyed… *yawn*
Last night Jimmy and I went to bed @ 8pm and woke up at midnight. He got ready (actually I got him ready – he’s disorganised, LMAO) and I drove him to Fort Carson to say goodbye.
He’s gone a month… JRTC (pre-deployment prep etc) so I won’t see him till the end of April.
*sigh*
This is the unromantic part of military spouse life. I’m the last person to define myself as "just" a spouse… but it is what it is. I’m (almost) married to this lifestyle. They work all day, think, talk, eat, sleep and dream deployment readiness and I get to go along with it.
Heh. You know… I’m probably not the best example. I love watching all those uber wives that are all "yay Army" with their magnets and stickers emblazened on their trucks and SUV’s… more power to them. I’m just not a supporter of the cause, the mismanagement, the idiotic backhanding that families get regardless of what the job description is. I’m just a supporter of him. I’ll be all the happier when he’s out. I don’t mean that in a disrespectful way but really… is this something I could sustain long term? Nope.
I just hope that when he gets back he doesn’t get all "woooooooo I love my job and wanna stay."
I was talking to his XO’s wife and she tole me she loves the military life. She said she doesn’t know what she’ll do when Dave leaves…. I suppose when you’ve been married 18 years you do just get used to it. I just think there has got to be something else to enjoy. Jimmy works 90+ hours per week (and even more during training) and there isn’t a lot of time for just enjoying life… I haven’t even been living this a long time but I am more than ready to start that next phase.
We went to Breckenridge last week-end. My friend Sarah (from Melb) came over to see her Dad (who lives in Breck) and we had a fabbo time. Took the kids sledding (Jimmy showed us how a proper sledding run was supposed to go but I guess my technique needs perfecting because I kept stacking it halfway down the hill!) down the most wicked hill. I now have confirmed proof that I suck at winter sports. I tried snowboarding and couldn’t stand up. I have tried skiing and freaked out when I couldn’t stop (and stacked) and even sitting on my butt I couldn’t stay on. I think this observation is telling me something… "stick to the beach honey."
Mind you I bought the most wicked pair of snowboarding pants. Totally rad. just wish I could perform as hardcore as my pants lead everyone to believe.
*cough*
Have photos, will upload as soon as Sarah gets here (I used her camera). I pick her up from Breck next Tuesday so she can come and spend some time with me in the Springs.
Still trying to resolve the whole tax issue but am running out of time… It looks like we have a way of getting Tax ID’s via IRS so we can be claimed as dependants. Wish this info had come sooner because taxes need to be done by April 15th.
Oh! I picked my "small" wedding dress up the other day and it fitsssssssss. Yeeeeee… If I can drop a few more pounds then I can probably get it taken in slightly more. I’m setting myself a challenge for April and a friend of mine has bet me she’ll lose more. Game on…! I love a good competition, nothing makes the blood pump more than a good gamble.
The loser will be taking the winner out for lunch.
The loser also gets to complete a cross-fit session with Jimmy as a drill sgt.
The loser ALSO gets to climb the Manitou Springs incline – http://www.stevegarufi.com/manitouincline.htm – pictures do it no justice!
The incline is easily the most exhausting thing I’ve ever done and I think on that alone I will have the motivation to win win win!
Court case next week. *bites nails*
That’s it… I’ve run out of things to talk about!!!

Its a different culture here (army wives). I mean, spouses get used to it but no one likes their husbands (or wives) being deployed for extended periods of time. Its hard on marriages and families. Its hard on everyone. Lets not jump up and down and get too excited about the whole military thing because while its the hand that feeds you, its a tough gig a lot of the time.

winter sports? not so much.. except that Bronwens Canadian DNA over rules all and she is seriously into it all…. and now spring and summer is here and the Aussie DNA with swimming is kicking in 🙂

I hear ya. I hate the army lol. They dont give a toss about the families of the soldiers, and that constant going away is a killer. I cannot wait until my fiance leaves too =)

I would be a mess. I hope this month goes by quickly!

I’m sorry you had to say good-bye to Jimmy. At least it’s only a month. I know that doesn’t really make it any better, but I hope you have enough fun things and busy things that you are distracted and it seems like less time to wait. Ashley

I think if you do it long enough you get used to it, then it becomes familiar, then if you’re doing it long enough its all you know.

I’m up for doing the climb. I guess we’ll do it when we’re there. Only a few more days til he’s back now. How’ve you been? I’ve been sooo busy. The past couple of weeks have absolutely flown by. Especially with work now on the scene. I’m losing track of the days/time!!!
