Furball throat…

The night before last I slept next to a sick little girl. Last night I vetoed the original sleeping arrangements and chose to pull out the futon sofa bed instead. This was originally because I was watching the "Rock Star" (INXS) reality TV show… but it just seemed like a better idea since I can think of much better things to do than getting sick.

Tonight is Annabelle’s birthday (Lisa’s 10 year odl sister). It a show of complete extravagence, ‘Mother’ (Annabelle and Lisa’s Mum, herein so termed because it seems so appropriate) is throwing a fully catered birthday party with a DJ for 60 ten year olds. I told Mike and he wanted to know if she was "on crack." lol. The way it goes in this house (the one that I work in) is that if someone can be paid to do something, get em’ in. So along with the caterer’s will come waiters, I come to play the Nurse/Nanny/Crowd Controller position (oi vey?) and Mother’s numerous sister’s will come along to hold Mother’s hand whilst mother drowns herself in red wine and Malboro Lights.

Last night Mother was in a puddle of tears when I arrived. I was greeted at the door by several of her sisters (she has about 8 I think). Lisa was asleep in her bed and Annabelle had dominated the TV in the girl’s lounge area. So I went into the kitchen (which is the most enormous, chic, funky kitchen on the planet), made myself a coffee and switched the TV on. After about a half an hour, Mother finally comes out looking red, puffy and frail. I figured that something big had happened but she started to break down again while she was telling me she couldn’t cope with Lisa being sick. mmmmmm. Aside from her diabetes, Lisa is quite a healthy child. The sickness that she has now is a mere cold, at the absolute worse a virus that she will shrug off in a couple of days. For Mother though, it’s so much more and since I can’t be there around the clock to care for Lisa, Mother seems to find the task a little too daunting herself.

So back to tonight. I’m sitting here typing and Tylah is doing my hair! I’m not getting terribly dressed up, just enough to not look like a dweeb to 60 kids. I’m quite tired from all the jumping up and down that I did last night. I am feeling a little bit zest-less and I kinda feel like I swallowed a hairball which makes my throat feel a bit scratchy. This is never a good sign and makes me get a bit nervous about catching a bug.

Anyway, it was (Aussie) Father’s Day today. The girls made Mike cards and got him a few little trinkets which was cute. The family then went an celebrated with a Yum Cha lunch at the Chinese restaurant. It was quite delicious. I followed that up with a bit of a snooze on the couch and then we went for a stroll to the mall. I found a cute pair of shoes for Courtney’s baby girl, Bronwen and the parcel is slower getting bigger and bigger!!! (I promise to send it soon!!!)

Now the hair is done i’d better be off.

Well now I feel like I’m going a little bit over board for my daughter’s 9th birthday. We are having a 70s groovy disco birthday, and I “was” going to hire a DJ for 15 kids, but I guess I’ll just set the stereo up in the garage and pop in the right music…which is actually a lot more cost effective…lol. Thanks, no really, I didn’t need to spend the money nor take anymore crack!!! LOL

Wow, I can’t imagine doing all that for a bunch of 10 year olds. Throw them in a pool or a lake with a cake and they will be set for hours. Hope you have/had fun.
