Dehydration…
The only thing more entertaining that a good day out is witnessing ‘yours truely’ pass out at the gym.
Oh yeah, it was THAT exciting.
The weather here has really started to heat up and as is common in Kansas, the humidity is pretty stiffling. Despite all that Jimmy and I have been really good about hitting the gym 4-5 days a week and we’re completely obsessed with spin class. Our instructors, Anjanette and Pauline are awesome and I think that’s the main reason the weight has been dropping off.
Anyhoo, Thursday night was really no different… Well I didn’t think it was any different (but apparently it was!), we turned up, Jimmy decided he wanted to do the stairmaster so I headed into the spin room to warm up. I was actually feeling really really good… I couldn’t even explain what happened because I’m normally fine with spin but after about 25 minutes and some serious, heavy duty sprints something (a musle) pulled in my shoulder as I went to stand and then I started to get dizzy and see gold dots. I stopped the bike, mumbled something to Anjanette as I stumbled out knowing full well I had to get to Jimmy before I passed out. I got to the stairmaster, had him stop his workout and that’s when it all becomes a blur. I know I told him I felt like I was gonna black out but the next thing I remember I woke up on the floor and there’s about 6 people in my face and the EMS (paramedics) are wheeling a stretcher into the gym.
Apparently I went white and my eyes glassed overf and down I went.
Can I just say I hate being on the patient side of things? I felt utterly helpless lying on the gym floor having ECG leads, my vitals taken and all the other first response nonsense that us medical peeps get stuck into when someone falls ill. They wanted to take me to hospital for IV rehydration because they figured that it was most likely that I’d just dehydrated but I decided against that since I only have travellers insurance and wasn’t sure what my coverage would be like (and didn’t especially feel like being out of pocket for some IV water and such…) so i ended up signing my waiver and headed home for an evening of lying om the couch, having my man shove gatorade and water down my throat every 2 minutes and rest.
Everything is finnnee except that I’ve got a viral infection and strep throat so perhaps that had something to do with it.
Alls well that ends well eh?

Yikes! At least you are okay! I have been sick/dizzy in the head this week and I was supposed to work out, except I didn’t think I’d make it. I’m glad I didn’t go, otherwise I fear my experience would’ve been like yours! Ashley

good for you for going to the gym so much. That’s awesome!! But the outcome of that session is so not good. Hope you feel ok whenever tmw was and now and that you’re all back into it.

I’ve had that happen to me more than once. I can tell when it’s going to happen. It’s always been due to dehydration and/or lack of food! Luckily now when I start to feel like I’m going to pass out, I lean against a wall or just sit down really quick and wait until it goes away. More water and ramon noodles for you honeycakes!
