Colorado Springs? Red.
The last few days here have been GORGEOUS! Seriously, I am soooo looking forward to summer… I was pouring through my closet trying to find all my tee-shirts and I couldn’t get enough of it. I’m very much the summer baby and even though the winter here has been super mild, I’m still hanging for shorts, skirts and tank tops. YES PLEASE!!!
So Friday was a stunning day. I mean, so warm that I had to turn the central heating allllllll the way down because I was sweating inside (FYI: the heating systems in these mountainous houses are very comprehensive!) and Jimmy called me and said: "Everyone’s going out tonight… Can we go?" Well between the field training exercises and all the meetings and Army crap he’s been through the last few weeks, I figured he deserved a night out. I got paid too so we were doing OK on the cash front. So once the daycare kids were picked up I dashed upstairs and got all dressed up (and found out a pair of jeans I haven’t fit into in 5 months fit again!!!) and felt pretty good.
We met up at the Phantom Canyon Brewing Co for dinner and a few drinks. I ordered a tofu salad and was really disappointed that the tofu was deep fried when I got it. Deep fried tofu??? Ewwww. So I ate the salad part and the soba noodles but left the tofu. I shared some of Jimmy’s Hummus and pita bread and vegetable platter and it was delicious except it was chock full of garlic and I was acutely aware that I was warding vampires off!
I had a couple of drinks but as soon as I started feeling light headed and tipsy I stopped. I’m just not happy being tiddly and drunk. I prefer being sober. That might be difficult to understand but I tend to feel ill and tired when I drink. Jimmy would like me to kick loose and be all silly and drunk and have fun BUT he’s the drinker, not me. I don’t mind driving home at the end of the night! I still kick loose and dance and have a great time, I just don’t like that dizzy, sick feeling.
Anyway, after dinner we all hit up Gasoline Alley and we had a bunch of fun dancing away to this great band they had playing. We went up to the 3rd floor and stood on the balcony waving at everyone and watching the cops bust people doing something on the main drag. We saw these two guys running down main street in chicken suits and two of the fattest, shortest cops hauling ass after them. I was laughing so hard I nearly had an asthma attack (not difficult to do in a high altitude environment!). We eventually went back downstairs to dance a little more (I danced on the bar and won a free drink) and I got hit on by this lesbian… Talk about awkward!!! Actually, there were a bunch of lesbians there and one of them tried bumping and grinding up against Val (Jimmy’s workmates wife) and nearly got her head ripped off. It was pretty clear we were there in a group and they waited until the guys went to the bathroom or went to grab a drink before bee-lining… I’m always pleasant with a "thanks but no thanks" but some of these girls are so ferocious! Grrrrrrr. LMAO.
Oooh, I forgot to mention that the band randomly asked if there were any "Aussies" in the house and I went a little bit mental. They dedicated a song to me. Awwwwwwwww spesh!
So we decided to leave when the few podiums (with dance poles) were occupied by the "lady lovers." Their dirty dancing was getting a little gross so we headed off to Jack Quinns for a little Irish pub action. That was fun but crowded as all hell, there were no tables and it was taking about 20 minutes to get a drink so we left and went down the road to Cowboys! FUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN! There was a mix of country music, rock music and dance music and the dancing went from two stepping to club dancing and we had a blast. My darling husband-to-be was drunk on crazy and tried crumping (erm, not something a 6 foot white guy looks good doing anytime!!!). I know when he’s had a lot to drink because that boy never dances unless he’s got alcohol running through his veins.
Sooooo I was spun around the dance floor and I just had a lot of fun. Before I knew it it was 3am and Cowboys was getting ready to close for the night. We eventually got ushered out by 3.45 and it wasn’t until I was out in the street I realised just how sore my poor feet were. One of the best things about Colorado Springs is that you can easily park in the city!!! Once home, I face planted on the bed (this was after I dragged my partially comatosed man upstairs) and slept until…
8.30am???? Whhhhaaaatttttt?
Yeah. 8.30am.
I KNOW I could have slept way longer because even a shower barely roused me. Still, I feel bad if I leave the kids with the babysitter too long the next day. We picked them up and went to Denny’s for breakfast. I resisted the urge to eat myself into a stupour and had some granola and natural yoghurt with fruit. I almost changed my mind when Jimmy’s Grand Slam breakfast turned up… MMmmmmm. Why is bad food so so yummy??? We had planned to take our pups to the dog park but decided that we needed to go home and have a little cat nap.
Oh we napped and by the time I got to the dog park I felt sooooo much better. I actually had the energy to run around with the pups and converse with other people. Good times.
Sunday, Jimmy and I decided to go and sort out our wedding registries. I never had one for my first wedding (I thought they were a bit indulgant and silly), prefering to allow my guests to be creaative. Well we received about 82 white, square dinner plates/sets which was nice but this time I figured that it was easier for everyone if we had a guide. It was so much fun running around with that little scanner!
Yesterday afternoon I cleaned and washed and cleaned and wiped and folded and ran around and finally ended up with a nice, clean house.
*sigh*

I think a registry makes sense, especially when people are so busy / lazy these days. Plus then you don’t end up with 74 blenders and 8 toasters when what you really wanted was some vases and cuttlery sets or whatever. Plus people then don’t get paranoid that you wont like it! 🙂 xxx
