Ten things I’d like to say to ten people….(done)

1) Nanny – Even though I’ve often felt (and still feel) that you have ruined my life, I love you.  I always have and I always will.  I wish I could help you make the transition from this life to the next a little more smoothly.

2) Laurie – I was brought up hearing this particular saying: We often treat the ones we love the most in the worst ways, because we’re secure in their love and know they will always be here for us.  For you, this takes on a whole new meaning.  I love you so much that I could never adequately explain it.  You are my life, and my top goal is to demonstrate that to you every day for the rest of our life.

3) Mary Helen – We have our difficulties, but I know you and you know me.  I was very angry in the past few days, but because of our conversation last night, I’m no longer angry.  We’re really going to have to be strong for ourselves and each other very soon.  I love you.

4) Johnny – I feel as if you don’t want to face reality sometimes, because it is too hard and sad…like right now.  You are part of this, though, and I will be here for you, regardless.  You have always been my pride and joy, and I love you.

5) Alex – There should be a new word for the type of love I have for you and your sister.  I feel so amazingly connected with you, and you have been such a tower of strength in this horrible time…even though you’re so young.  Thank you for loving me so much and blessing my life with your presence.

6) Juli – As I said above, there should be a new word for the type of love I have for you and your brother.  I am really enjoying the time we spend together now, and I hope I am a positive role model for you.  Your laugh (the real deal) lights up my soul.  I knew from the very first moment I ever saw you that I would love you forever.

7) Mama – There are times when I don’t know really what to think about you, but you always know how to fix everything when it goes wrong.  Even better, you help ME figure out how to fix things for myself.  You are the most gentle person I have ever known, and your loving heart is something I have always and will always admire.  I am so so proud to be your son!

8) Daddy – I miss you so much, Daddy.  There was a long time when I saw only bad things about you, but I came to realize that it was only because I was so angry at losing you so early.  You were a good, if complicated, man, but I know how lucky I was to have you in my life.  You define the term "real man".  Thank you for sharing part of your life with me.

9) Memaw – I’ve always thought of you as almost a goddess.  Your sweet, gentle character and your ever-present love and support have always been a mainstay in my life.  You have lived a long, good life, and I cherish what time we have left to spend with each other.  Like I always tell you, I’m so proud to have you as my grandmother!

10) My daughters – Nothing in this world has made me feel so complete as to have my darlings Tippy-J and Ebbe.  You are my heroines, my grown babies, my anchors to this life.  Thank you for accepting me as your father and for sharing your wonderful children with your mother and me.  I love you so much!!!!!
