Nanny’s situation update

Ok.  This whole situation has me fighting such an internal battle.  I don’t know if I care or don’t care about that woman.  I know I love her.  I mean, come on, she’s my grandmother.  I don’t LIKE her much, though, which makes me feel guilty.

Two days ago, I received a certified package, which consisted of two large manila envelopes full of paperwork.  As far as I can tell, with exception of a return envelope that was in the first one, they are exactly the same as each other.  They sent me a letter saying that Texas’ Department of Aging and Disability Services (henceforth known as DADS) has filed an application to become Nanny’s guardian.  Not only did they tell me, they SHOWED me.  They sent a copy of the court papers filed.  I read the petition for DADS to become Nanny’s guardian.  Then I read a statement from the dr. who examined her last.  Then I read a statement from the DADS guardianship specialist.  Lastly, I read a statement from good-ole Amanda P., Nanny’s caseworker with APS.  It all took a while to read, as the documents were very very long.

In the section that listed Nanny’s adult next-of-kin, they mentioned MH, our cousin Mary Jane, and me.  No Johnny.  No Mama.  No Rebecca (Mary Jane’s older sister).  They also sent a waiver for me to sign and have notarized, saying that I didn’t contest their being placed as Nanny’s guardian.  Not only did it say THAT, but it also waived my right to be informed about any legal proceedings in Nanny’s case.  It also stated that I was to swear I was not disabled, legally.  Well, I had three problems with the waiver.  I AM legally disabled, first of all.  Next, I DO mind their being placed as guardian.  Lastly, this is my grandmother, not just some old person I know and like.  I DO want to know what’s happening.  Given, I have no interest in actually BEING her keeper, but I want to know what the person who winds up in charge of her is planning to do to my father’s mother.  I feel that it is my right to know, and to be able to object, if the situation calls for it.  I know I will probably get notes saying that my right to know and act is nullified by my lack of interest in becoming her guardian myself.  So what!  It’s not your grandmother in question, she’s mine!

There are further complications, but I am very tired right now, and I will try to write them out in a later *Edit*.

Love and all that crap,

PdC

This stuns me! Wow, it almost feels like child protective services taking away your child! I’m amazed that the world is so procedural these days that human beings are treated like numbers. It’s perfectly normal to love someone and not like them, i could name quite a few family members lol. What are your other options if you choose not to agree and sign? Would it create a court case? Are there other means who can be her guardian? Sorry for all the questions lol 😛
