Persistence

Oh the agreeing to disagree!
Oh the ultimate cop-out to actually work shit out.
Lazy fuckers.

So I’m sure you have seen or heard the proposed solution to preventing future school shootings is to post armed guards within the school.

After seeing a particular facebook image twice… I responded. Mostly because I highly disagree with further promoting fear especially to our young, most impressionable minds. Here is the exchange:

LC: And then the government will have to fund a study on the psychological effects of kindergardeners seeing armed guards everyday when they go to school. Succumbing to your fears make them stronger.

MA: Pistols are rarely seen when concealed. Just saying.

MS: LC, I agree that succumbing to fears does make them stronger, however a few extra adults in the schools with unseen weapons would not scar the children. Plus, having gone into elementary schools in uniform, i know for a fact that they kids love it

LC: It also seems like a good way to potentially invite pedophiles into the school system. We know that they would jump on that job! I had this discussion before as well, and I inquired. What if the attack starts in the gym and the armed guard is say in the office, 3 minutes away?

MS: Knowing both Teachers and Veterans, LC, let’s agree to disagree.

LC:  I am not trying to imply that all teachers and veterans are pedophiles, but surely the exist.

MA: Succumbing to your fears makes them stronger.

Oh the old dismissive agree to disagree.
This is the second time one of my more conservative ‘friends’ has thrown the old agree to disagree bullshit.
And you should know that it infuriates me.
Why do you think we are in this mess?
Because we’ve all forgotten how to compromise.
Yes I will admit that I should have said that a concealed solution is better than the image projected of a solider holding an assault rifle.
But I asked a relevant question and posed a relevant point.
Or have we already forgotten the outrage of all the recent pedophile scandals.
Yes perhaps we are a nation of ADD people.
But damn I fucked up somewhere in the mist.
I stooped to their level. Tried to use fear to combat fear.
It’s hard to learn the rhetoric of the close minded.
How the fuck do you get them to wake up?

WHAT HE TOUCHED SOME KIDS???? CRUCIFY.
Oh now it’s football season. Oh now I have to get back to work.
I’m BUSY BUSY BUSY BUSY.
WHAT HE SHOT SOME KIDS???? CRUCIFY.
Oh now it’s the holidays. Oh now it’s the new year.
Oh now I have to get back to work.
I’m BUSY BUSY BUSY BUSY.

My mind is racing.
I am composing disconnected letters to the president, writing grand speeches, and combatting close minded opinions on facebook.

Okay, so there is more to the Facebook messages. I thought it was the end, but there is more.

MH:  well i think before they would let anyone into a school to work there would be an evaluation to see if the person had issues or not. but having some one there would also stop that pedophile that is trying to lure your child into there car . no matter what anyone says there will always be someone there to disagree that is how this country is its 61/2 of this half a dozen of another . all valid points in ll the post but still dont think we will ever make everyone inthis country h(a)ppy

MS: Ha. Nice Lomison. Thanks Hardy.

MH: it would be better than waitingfor a natural disaster to happen or another deployment lol

LC: Hardy, I appreciate the point. And yeah I’m sure there are a very select few that wouldn’t like to see an end to needless violence, but I think that the vast majority of people would like to see an end to it. We can agree to disagree all day, but a solution will never arise without hearing the disagreements and coming to a compromise. If standards are set and followed, and officers were plain clothed and weapons were concealed, perhaps it could work. We surely have the veteran population to make this obtainable? But wouldn’t it be nicer to come up with a solution that didn’t involve more guns?

NL: "In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.
When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force.
The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gang banger, and a single guy on equal footing with a carload of drunk guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender." —- peice from "The Gun Is Civilization"

MH: well here is the prolem with that you are never going to get rid of guns criminals will always find away to get them. no matter what legislation is put into place it is only going to hurt the people that own guns the right way. so we ban guns and something like this happens again then who do we blame the gov for banning guns or making it so hard for law abiding citizens to obtain them that we cannot even protect our selves.

MH: LC i see your profile picture and you are shooting what apears to be an AR-15 style weapon , so obviously you are pro gun. as a gun owner i dont mind them tightening the laws obtaing guns but to ban them is just crazy. second before we go banning guns maybe we should look into the mental health situation that this country has and try to fix that as well.

LC: That viewpoint makes sense from a physical sense-NL. But what about the mental implications? How do you prepare someone to defend their own life by taking another? Also can an elderly person really square off equally with a younger combatant. As you <span id=".reactRoot[37].[1][2][1]{comment126516784175695_159689}.0.[1].0.[1].0.[0].[0][2].0.[3]" style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51);

font-family: ‘lucida grande’, tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 14px; text-align: left; background-color: rgb(237, 239, 244); “>age, your reaction times, physical capabilities, eyesight, etc deteriorate. Why would a younger person still not feel more confident when faced with an elderly opponent?
There is always a catch-22 with situations. Nothing is ever black and white, no matter how much we want it to be. The solution will have to be a complex one. One where we all decide to look at ourselves- our actions and motives. The kid in question did try to purchase a gun prior to stealing his mother’s. He didn’t want to submit to the safety precautions. We will never know the know the events that transpired. We will never know the true motivations of his actions.

LC: Oh and yes. I like shooting guns. I’m pretty damn good shot. I don’t own any guns. I don’t want to feel obligated to wear a gun. The gun I was shooting in the pic was a civilian form of the kind of weapon used to Iraq, if my memory serves me correctly. A veteran took me out shooting.
There needs to be a balance in the addressing of the issues. Nobody deserves to feel alienated in the quest to end this sort of thing. Gun owners and people struggling with mental health alike, but there does need to be an evaluation of America and why these things are more prevalent here.
MS, Sorry for bombarding your status. I’m sure you weren’t intended a debate from posting that image and I want to assure you that I mean you and your ideals no harm. I enjoy hearing other points of views and challenging them. As you and your friends have helped to challenge mine today!

MS: LC, no worries girl. I like a heated discussion as much as the next person as well. I think that with everything that our generation has gone through, the more discussion we have the better chance for a brighter future the world has.

I believe that’s it for now.
At least for me anyways.
I need to get back to being BUSY BUSY BUSY.

I completely agree about the mentality of drama followed by busy followed by drama. I don’t think having guns around in proper controls makes children fear guns. Quite the opposite. Most of the kids I know that have grown up around guns tend to be more serious and calmer, which is more likely a result of their entire atmosphere, but familiarity rarely breeds fear.

My dad always had alcohol around our house. I rarely saw him drunk. Maybe twice that I recall since the age of reason. His logic was that he didn’t want us to fear it, so he used it in the proper and controlled manner. It worked. I’m not an alcoholic, despite family history and an early influence and I don’t fear booze. It just is.

There was an interesting article I read today about why don’t we start regulating the media since they’re a big contributer to the violence mentality. Can you imagine that news meltdown? It’s our basic rights! The first ammendment! No less basic than the second, if you ask me. An interesting comparison, atleast.

By the way, the “agree to disagree” comment is the same one I get from a bunch of mealy-mouthed liberals, so it cracks me up what you said there.

you ended that discussion well. you communicate that you mean no harm and this is simply a discussion to explore solutions. well done.

Facebook is really tweaking my nerve. Everyone feels free to spew everything and you’re not supposed to acknowledge or comment on it even though they shove it in your face. If you do, you’re the bad guy. I’m not a fan of that quality of thinking. If you comment publicly, you should accept public challenges.

*grins* I’m so glad you remembered your notes. Unfortunately, I’m out for the week. I will have to respond later. Take care.

I know right. I expected some of them to be like that. But not all of them.
