The Moth
July 17, 2020 – 11:19 P.M.
It’s really no fair that on the weekends I can barely stay up past midnight but during the work week? Wide awake, I almost have to trick myself into feeling sleepy.
So. Around the 4th or possibly a day or two before, a giant moth flew into my house. I, of course, did not like this since I would have to catch it and put it back outside but it was the end of the night and I didn’t want to bother at the moment. Bad idea. The next day it was no where to be found. Cut to the 6th, it was again at the end of the night. I was rummaging through a basket of clean clothes for the next day. I pick up/move a t-shirt and the moth crawls out like, what’s up? I scream then laugh. I went to my cupboard to get a cup to capture it this time but stopped and thought this needs to be documented. So I went to grab my phone. This was again, a bad idea because AGAIN this thing was no where to be found when I got back. I was so confused and really bothered. I didn’t want it in here anymore.
The next morning I’m getting ready for work and I hear this weird sound, like a random thumping. I realize it’s coming from the sink. I had a big metal bowl in there and hiding out in the corner of the sink was yes, the moth. I was going to scoop it out but as soon as I moved the bowl ever so slightly, it flew above the cupboards and onto the wall. I got a chair with the cup and post card to get it. I got it to fly into the cup but wasn’t fast enough so it escaped and flew to the other side of the kitchen above those cupboards. Since this was early in the morning, before work, I thought fuck it.
One night after hanging with Kail and Vince, I opened my front door only to watch this thing fly away, into my kitchen, bang around on the light then disappear. It was tormenting me now. I really had it. I stopped caring to look for it.
After that, I stopped seeing it. I assumed it was dead. On the 13th, I was again hanging out with Kail and Vince at my place when lo and behold, I see the moth right on my wall in the living room. Honestly in a place I expect a moth to be, right above the lamp. Again didn’t want to attempt to catch it even though it was in an easier place. By the time I got up enough energy, it had crawled to the point where the ceiling meets the wall and thought, that’s gonna be hard to catch. Yep, I didn’t even try. I hoped it would just be around tomorrow. It wasn’t.
Today after work, so many days have gone by now I was wondering where it actually was, if it was going to come back. And shortly after thinking this, I go to move some bags of bananas I’ve left on my stove top. Guess who’s on one of the bags? Yes. Popping up again. I record it to show Kail, I’m in disbelief. It’s relatively calm. I notice its color is a little different. Feeling bad, I gently capture it in the cup and postcard I still had lying around. It doesn’t freak out all over inside the cup. It seems weak which makes me feel even worse.
I bring it outside and it doesn’t move when I take the cup off. I leave it on the ground and come back inside. But I wonder if it’s hungry or thirsty. I Google what I can give it. Somewhere, and I don’t know if this is true information but, it said you can offer moths (who actually have mouths) fruit; apples or grapes. I had both so I tried an apple first but it was huge and it didn’t seem interested. I opted for a grape instead. I washed it off, sliced it in half then took it outside. I took away the apple and set down the grape. Same reaction, not much of one. I decided it needed to come back inside to possibly have the fruit and recuperate. But when I picked up the postcard it was still on, it moved a little then began crawling. I could tell it was trying to fly. I said, no not yet, not yet. It crawled partially off the card, I could feel its little legs on my hand. Then before I could get it inside, it flew away. I saw it land on the wall of the building, then take off again, out of sight. I hope this means it will be okay.
LOL!! I hate moths. They scare the shite out of me.
@sammybaby haha I can understand that. They’re flight patterns are so erratic and unpredictable. They always make me scream.
@nothingfornow I get my sister to kill them.

You were having your own adventure with animals and didn’t tell me?! I like that you were so dedicated to keeping the moth alive.
